In the case of major Hollywood stars like Hugh Jackman, there are also missed financial opportunities ( film roles) that must be partly reckoned in their salaries as stage actors if Broadway producers want them in their shows. I wouldn't be surprised if they have had to take large pay cuts just so they can be on stage.

I'm shocked. Whoever says you can't make a living as a Broadway performer obviously hasn't heard of these salaries. Sure, they're for the leads basically, but still. $10-50,000 a WEEK is insane. That's up to $250,000 per year. Screw being a doctor or lawyer, this is FUN STUFF!
But yes, I know hardly anyone will probably get to this point. The more realistic expectation is probably the ~$1500 ensemble member salary. Woop.
Well, cindy, the point is that these people usually have these jobs for a year or so and then that's it. And it's hard to get work to begin with. You're one in a million if you make that kind of money on Broadway. Heck, you're lucky if you get on Broadway period.

Think of prices in NYC... you are not going to make it on Broadway right after you are finished with school. Granted, it happens to some, but it's not like you are going to try and "make it" on Broadway for the instant fortune... it takes a while is all I'm saying.
Quote:
Understudies for a principal role get 33.00 per week
Dance captian is like 150.00
swing incriment is like 75.00
set moves are usually like 10-15
risk 15.00 (smoke,fog, raked stage)
part payment ( ie:grandma tzeitl) 15.00
Can someone please clarify a couple of things? What is a "part payment"? Does that mean that you get paid an extra $2 per performance if you have a named role? I guess the $2 adds up over time, but it doesn't seem like much. (and the $2 for hazard pay seems laughable compensation if people really think there's a hazard)
Also, someone mentioned in a previous thread that standbys get paid an extra eighth of their salary for every time they have to perform. Is the same thing true for understudies, or is it more complicated than that since they are already performing in the show?

Yes, that's what "parts payment" is.
The "extra eighth" for standbys (and some understudies) is standard, but is negotiable to higher amounts depending on the specific role/star.
They make more money than you.
And it's rude to ask someone how much they make.

In The Lion King each cast member gets more money for each specialty they do. That definitley adds up!
