What broadway performers would you like to see have a residency on broadway or think they could amass enough of a ticket sale for one.
Kristin Chenoweth has managed two. Liza had a couple.
I would like to see Bernadette do a brand new setlist and show. Betty Buckley? Chita?
Idina would probably fare well.
Barbra would sell out as would Bette
Would someone like Jeremy Jordan have the name to do even a week or two of shows?
Audra?

I could see Sutton Foster doing a small residency.
I’m surprised Hugh Jackman hasn’t ever taken his solo concert to Broadway.

Audra could do something really special. Patti has before, including with Mandy. Idina would be a no-brainer!

Audra, Megan Hilty, and Aaron Tveit.

Aaron is great but wouldn’t sell past 2 nights.
I’d love to see some performers doing a residency to get Broadway back up and running.

Lol. Yeah, that's a lie. He sold out six performances at 54 Below in a few hours. He could do at least a 3 month residence in NYC. Just like Jeremy Jordan. Both wildly popular and very talented.

Six sold-out performances at 54 below is 882 tickets. That's a far cry from selling that many seats for each performance in a Broadway house.

I never said a thing about a Broadway house. There have been many successful residencies at places like Cafe Carlyle and 54 Below.

Oh, the OP said Broadway run and I thought that's what you meant too.

Oops, that's my fault, I just read the title of the thread and went from there. Filling a Broadway house several nights a week would take a mega star or perhaps two of them?

Now there's an interesting idea. What if instead of one person, you had a rotating cast of say five or six that played once or twice a week.

That show also travelled to L.A. for the MPTF benefit.
The bigger solo concert happened in NYC but not on Broadway--
Last year, Hugh went on a 90-show music tour across Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico called TheManTheMusicTheShow. In essence it was " a theatre show" because it featured numbers adapted from stage and film such as TheBoyFromOz/BeautyAndTheBeast/ DearEvanHansen(YouWillBeFound/LesMiserables/Oklahoma!(London only)/Carousel (Soliloquy)/Greatest Showman and from some movie musical favorites (Singin' in the Rain, An American in Paris, etc) and other classic songs(AllTheWay/MackTheKnife/SomewhereOverTheRainbow/etc). In New York, he had 3 sold-out shows, not on Broadway, but at MadisonSquareGarden. His special guest performers in NYC included Pasek&Paul and KealaSettle. In attendance (he pointed them out) were Phil Smith( ShubertOrg) and TedChapin(Rodgers&Hammerstein).
Later in the tour, he had a special song collage in a tribute to New York and Broadway.

Hugh even had a special dance/drums number, which included a tribute to his screen persona ( Wolverine)

Are you referring to Broadway to Oz or The Man. The Music. The Show?

What are we counting as a "residency"? I feel like this the term "residency" implies an extended period of time. Kristin Chenoweth doing a 2 week concert on Broadway doesn't seem like it counts. I guess most concerts are only a few nights, so 2 weeks is more than usual, but it still doesn't strike me as a "residency" like Springsteen's show (which ran for over a year).
But Springsteen really isn't a "Broadway performer" in the traditional sense, he's a famous musician who did a residency on Broadway. And we could go on and on naming mega-famous musicians who could sell out a year on Broadway if they wanted to. And maybe someone like Sara Bareilles or Sting (both of whom have written Broadway shows) would have some interest in doing something like that. Then you have big movie stars with Broadway ties like Hugh Jackman, who could definitely manage to sell out an extended residency. Meryl Streep could easily do it too, though personally, I'd much rather that Streep's big return to Broadway be in a theatrical role. Maybe Glenn Close? Anne Hathaway? Jennifer Hudson?
As for performers mostly known for doing Broadway? It would be difficult. I mean, plenty of them could do a couple weeks like Chenoweth did. But any longer than that? The list of viable candidates would be very short. Like others said, I think Bette and Barbra could do it. But other than them, even some of the biggest Broadway names would struggle to fill the house for more than a few weeks. As much as we might love them, most Broadway actors simply don't have the box office power for long runs.

Hugh's 10 week run at The Broadhurst was fantastic! In addition to seeing it in NYC, saw it the summer before in San Francisco, when the show played there, before going to New York. Then saw the show again when he performed at The Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, raising money for the MPTF benefit.
In 2001, Linda Eder did a 5 night run at The Gershwin Theatre. She was fantastic, as always.

To OP: Chita has already somewhat done a 'residency' to unfortunately not much business.
