Thanks. Today was really hard. I’m a sub so move theatre to theatre, but this was the worst. I’ve never experienced such a stream of abuse - and LIES to my employer because they didn’t get away with breaking the rules.
I fear this pandemic and our last President have emboldened the true monsters of society.
I saw my 14th '21-'22 Broadway performance since August on Wednesday (The Minutes) and got my 4th shot/second Pfizer booster today. In no place in my travels the last 9 months have I felt as safe as in a Broadway theater. Triple vaxed folk, masked, well behaved, respectful of one another. When we all returned at the end of last summer, nervous, tentative, unsure if any of this would work and restore sufficient faith, it was scary. Yet it's been a glorious validation of theater and those who love it. In some ways, the protocols have made us all feel more of a community. However long this era lasts, I believe it's changed us, sharing the trade-offs to sit in the dark 90 minutes - three hours. I will never take the dimming of those lights for granted again. If my glasses fog up a bit more, I can bear it. I know what's coming, and what it's worth; I didn't have it for 18 months.

Broadway usher solidarity here. The mask compliance at my show is terrible, and as we no longer have COVID safety in the building it ends up being our responsibility even though it's not supposed to be. I've sort of given up on trying to enforce it because it's just a neverending game of whack-a-mole."
You don’t have covid safety anymore? Thankfully we still do! Jesus."
We do, but there's way fewer of them than there were when we first reopened and they all leave after intermission, which leaves any issues to be dealt with by managers and we've had some wild times.

The union was very clear: the ushers are NOT responsible for any aspect of Covid policy enforcement. The most they are required to do is identify patrons who are not wearing masks.
The covid safety teams have been a mixed bag, with many are nowhere near as assertive as others. And audiences are increasingly being uncooperative. With more and more businesses doing the mask mandate in NYC, Broadway is soon going to find it harder to continue to justly theirs...especially with unmasked actors/musicians, who are increasingly ignoring the stage door ban on greeting fans.

100% agree. I’m fine with whatever they decide, but it’s only going to get increasingly harder to enforce a mask mandate.
I flew yesterday and many people had their masks down outside of eating or drinking. The flight attendants didn’t seem bothered to enforce it which I’m almost thankful for. If they did, there could have been problems with passengers. And thankfully no passengers took it upon themselves to enforce the mask mandate either.

Translation: Please don’t trash my mom. There’s more to her than one idiotic choice.
I will never understand as long as I live how any educated person could be more afraid of the vaccine than the virus, and my mom isn’t the only one I know."
I don't think she made an "idiotic choice." I have a friend who got the vaccine back in March 2021 and had an allergic reaction where she got spontaneous hives for months and this condition is rare but does happen. She followed what the authorities were saying but wishes she was more informed or waited to take the vaccine. https://www.cureus.com/articles/69363-chronic-spontaneous-urticaria-after-covid-19-vaccine
As long as your mom is ok with the consequences of her choice, let her be.
If I were you, I'd spend the extra $$$ and travel to London's West End. Over there, there is no vaccine mandate but some theaters do require patrons to wear a facemask. A few theaters also require a recent negative covid test.

Does Broadway have the negative test instead of vaccine policy still?

I believe that's only for children ages 5 and under.

I was just reading this https://www.tdf.org/stages/article/2723/all-broadway-theatres-to-require-proof-of-full-vaccination-and-masks and the article is older but in the comments some posters stated to contact the theater and ask if a recent covid test (6 hours for rapid test) would be sufficient for an adult without proof of vaccination.
In the TDF article (dated Mar 7, 2022 so policy may have changed by today) it states:
What about people with medical conditions or closely held religious beliefs that prevent vaccination? Proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of showtime, or a negative COVID-19 antigen test taken within six hours of when the curtain rises must be provided.

I really hope to bring my mom to the theater this summer. She’s deathly afraid of the vaccine - and her aversion to it has probably aged me the better part of a decade.
How I’d love to bring her to see “Company.” It would be her first Broadway putting since “Hello Dolly!”"
Screenshot taken from Telecharge website for COMPANY musical below. Looks like it is possible for your mom to see COMPANY as long as she can wear a mask and provide a recent negative covid test result.

No, all attendees must be ages 5+ and fully vaccinated.

But what if someone has a medical conditions or religious belief- can they not get a negative Covid test to attend a Broadway show?

Ugh, I have to say that’s pretty much the same for ours now that you mention it. The Covid teams do nothing. It’s so maddening. I’ve given up enforcing masks. I make an announcement to my section to keep them on before the show, and again at intermission but that’s it. I can’t take the abuse anymore over it.

Yes, they can. They'll need to provide a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of curtain, or a negative rapid antigen test taken within 6 hours of curtain.
So as long as your religious belief is that trump is Jesus you ain’t need no vaksunashun shot just a test 72 hours before you went out and contracted the disease.
cool.
