I was speaking with an usher atSIXlast weekend who was adamant that all current restrictions would stay in place and be extended until the end of June. Same usher also made a bold prediction by saying that down the line, mask requirements will eventually last longer than vaccination requirements inside Broadway houses."
Glad to hear that you are an equal opportunity harasser -- and don't only annoy the conductors and the stage management teams!

A friend of mine was OBSESSED with a show pre covid and would send certain actors gifts and cookies and birthday gifts just for the hope to get invited backstage. Never did and spent so much money. I sent a congratulatory messaged to one of the actors in said show on Instagram and was invited backstage a week later. Had no prior contact with this actor other than an occasional post like.
They tried too hard. It comes off creepy and desperate. You were chill about it. Makes sense.

Start with post 481 in this thread: https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.php?thread=1126044&page=20
The poster offered to meet up with another outside Funny Girl; the same bullies who are all over this thread started mocking him for having the audacity of trying to connect with another Broadway fan. They were called out for being bullies there (in a post that has several dozen likes), but are still at it.

I would have explained it to you but my screenshot of another poster's comments on this very board were deleted...

As a box office employee, 1) ouch, 2)...fair.
I won't say yet whether I agree or disagree with the policy for after April 30th (because we don't know yet what it is) but I do wonder what the threshold is for lifting mandates. Like, is there some magic number/percentage of people vaccinated or some small number of cases or whatnot? Cause at this point I think we need to accept that Covid is never going to entirely go away. And there's some people who won't get vaccinated. (Whether that's because they're anti-vax or they have a medical condition preventing it). So saying that they won't lift the mandates until Covid is completely gone or until there's a 100% vaccination rate basically means they won't ever lift them. Yes for the time being the mandates are important, but like, it's not realistic for them to be in place til the end of time.

Pro tip for anyone who might be reading this: Actors get REALLY uncomfortable when fans spend an inordinate amount of money on them. Just...don't do it.

It is not about numbers. It's about a marketing calculus. There is a percentage of people who will stop going if there are potentially unvaxed people without masks around them. And there is a percentage of people who won't (or can't) go with the mandates.
The fact is, when we go to a show filled with New Yorkers (virtually all of whom are vaccinated because they have no choice), there is a lot less concern than when we go to a show and end up sitting next to the couple from Mississippi on their once in a lifetime trip to the big city and one of them Broadway shows (and yes, a direct quote I heard in the theatre last weekend).
AND DON’T SEND THEM FOOD.

There's inevitably people who will not go to a show if masks are required and then there's the people who will not go to a show if they're NOT required - and then there's the people (like myself) who are basically indifferent. I very eagerly await the day I can sit in a theatre without a mask on, but until that day comes I will in no way let that stop me from seeing shows and supporting the industry whenever I can. And while I do not intend to continue wearing one once the mandate is lifted, I will continue to fully respect anyone who chooses to. The point is, when the mandate ends, it's simply a fact that some people will be pleased by that and some people won't. With something like this there really isn't a way to make everyone happy.

I’m an usher and we are having an increasingly harder time enforcing masks. Today, I’ve experienced a slew of nastiness at a matinee, and aggressive patrons and I’ve been told I’m on “a power trip”. It’s exhausting, sometimes scary, always frustrating. I’m Exhausted.

if you are comfortable saying, which show?

I’ll just say it’s a jukebox musical as I don’t want to get in any trouble. Doubt I would though.

Can’t believe I have to say this, but please, don’t berate ushers or call us names because we are simply enforcing the rules our employment contracts us to enforce.
I might be an “ugly, fat f—-“ but I’m also an usher doing his job.
sigh.
Jesus, I am SO sorry that is happening to you. If anyone messes with an usher or calls them any names tonight at the show Im seeing, I WILL throw down. Period.
I think (and hope) no one here would ever say or do anything like that but I asked because one of the things being wrestled with within the various constituencies of the league is how to account for the differing demographics if different shows.

No, I totally understand why you asked, Hogan. I just didn’t feel comfortable saying. But to be honest, the demographic from this show is mostly lovely, but it’s the bridge and tunnel Jersey/Staten Island crowd that are the most abusive.
I’m here again tonight and luckily leaving after the show starts. Feeling pretty down and exhausted. (And yeah, I’m fat and doing my best to work on it, but God it does hurt when people point it out.)
