Marianne Jean-Baptiste is the most exciting casting of the year.
Exciting!
This cast is good enough that even if I don’t love what Ivo brings to it it’ll still be worth seeing. (Or maybe I’ll love Ivo’s work. He’s 50/50 for me.)
Actually asking this: have the bullying accusation against Van Hove been sufficiently addressed among the theatre world?
Bryan Cranston has given such wonderful stage performances that this is definitely on my list.

I am kind of surprised this casting is happening since it is part of the reason the original director left the last revival at Roundabout (I believe he wanted to do mixed race casting)
also there was just a big revival at the National Theater in 2019 will Bill Pullman and Sally Field
I’m curious if Ivo will just present a standard staging of this or do something different.

Ivo's "View from the Bridge" was stunning and devastating (fairly traditional -- for him), and the actors all gave extraordinary performances, so I'm very excited for this.

Rebecca Miller looked pretty foolish for that in 2019. Perhaps she's evolved since then, as the rest of the world has.
Money also talks. Cranston's been a consistent draw on stage and his last collab with Ivo was pretty electrifying. If that means Ivo wants to do race-conscious casting, let him.
