re: Bway Under the stars

The Jersey Boys rendition was just different and unusual. It was quite enjoyable.

Jeff Calhoun directed it, if that helps any. Why ask people in Sweeney to sing Sweeney songs? It wouldn't be original.

re: Bway Under the stars

What a fantastic broadcast!

I missed most of Jane Krakowski's (sp?) number, but the ending sounded great to me.

Sutton Foster and Noah Racey's performance was adorable, and Broadway needs Noah back pronto. He's fantastic.

Kelli O'Hara and Matthew Morrison's rendition of 'Tonight' was superb! I was so happy to have gotten to hear/see that. I only wish Matt had more to sing.

Carolee Carmello...what to say. This woman is brilliant. I would love to see her as Evita.

Brian D'Arcy James surprised me. I was bummed about seeing him instead of Norbert when I go to DRS, but now I'm very excited. He was fantastic singing 'Oh What A Circus'.

Elaine Stritch was cute. She did a great acting job.

Anika Noni Rose sounded gorgeous, but I was pissed that CBS cut her off to go to a commercial.

Michael Arden made my night. His voice makes one melt into a huge puddle.

Michael Cerveris sounded fantastic as always.

It was great to see Christine Ebersole again. Her song was beautiful.

The Jersey Boys medley was just odd in my opinion. The harmonies sounded nice, but twisting a classic song like that into a quartet did not work for me. To be honest, it hurt my ears a little.

Rebecca Luker looked and sounded perfect.

Bebe was fantastic. What a great song to end the show.

I was happy to see the little clips of Manoel Felciano and Shuler Hensley as well. Both sounded great.

Nope.

It's a one-time-only special only in the NY area.

re: Bway Under the stars

i love the 2 understudy jersey boys (kudos to christian hoff for showing up...unlike other tony winners)

What was that for? JLY did every event leading up to the Tonys. He needs a rest some time. He can't be SuperBroadwayMan.

Hopefully I'll be able to watch this soon :). My mom recorded it at home.

I mean seriously, you try and do 8 shows a week in that falsetto. Kudos to John Lloyd for still being able to sing!

Saw "TDC" again this afternoon, and then I see Liza channeling
Beth Leavel !! Couldnt help but think about "Drowsy" again !!!

re: Bway Under the stars

I think they all sounded better live, but being closer with the camera was fantastic because some of the stuff was missed from the back and Christine kept my interest so much better there than the night of. I loved it!

re: Bway Under the stars

Guys,
It was a very hot and sticky night. I had my hair done and it curled from the humidity. All of the women had their hair done but it was awful out.
I sat in a chair at Federico's for almost two hours and it was awful in a few minutes.
Sucks to be humid.

re: Bway Under the stars

I wish I could have seen the broadcast tonight. I was pretty far back in the grass that night, and they had some major sound problems all night long, so it would have been nice to hear/see the show again re: Bway Under the stars

I totally forgot about this re: Bway Under the stars
Can anyone post what numbers were performed?

Thanks

re: Bway Under the stars

Wow, there was definitely A LOT of editing. I was there during the concert, and Manoel's performance was one of the worst that night. Like most of it was bad. But, they only showed the part where he sang semi-decently on the broadcast. Also, did I miss John Cullum on the broadcast, or did they cut him out? Cause he was bad during the concert.

re: Bway Under the stars

They cut out John Cullum, who did a great job and had more energy than the youngest person onstage
#69

re: Bway Under the stars

I missed Cullum also.
If you have seen the past telecasts this was the best.
Cutting off performers mid song was what they did best.
But they got the best of Mano who was not very good,
(which is unlikely for him)
I thought they caught Chase Brock's Choreography quite well,
He is such a young up and Commer!
Sutton, Jane, and Rebbeca looked and sounded Beautiful!
Having been there, I think they got the best moments of Stritch, Cerveris, Carmella, Rose (wanted more) and James.
Goldsberry Blew me away, she can so belt!
I loved Longoria and the boys, it was an inspired Phantom/Seasons Idea,
Michael Arden's She Loves Me was the best Acted and Sung Performance of the night.
and Kelli looked and sounded like an Angel.
This was a Huge undertaking, one Full rehearsal and Than a Hot Humid Windy night of Singing.
Congrats to All!!

re: Bway Under the stars

Great post Curtain, definitely agree with your statements. Anika did a beautiful job and Renee was superb

re: Bway Under the stars

They cut off Anika's song. Grr. I also feel like they chopped "Bill" up a little.

I live out of the NY area and would LOVE to buy/get a copy of last night's broadcast. If anyone can supply me with one I would be very happy. Thanks in advance!

re: Bway Under the stars

I hated Jersey Boys singing All I Ask of You. I was wearing a hat and at one point I took it off and threw it at the TV. Loved Carolee, and Tommar!, in Buenos Aires. If that comes in from Britain, definitely cast her if anyone.

re: Bway Under the stars

Why'd you hate the Jersey Boys performance so much? I'm just curious as to why...

re: Bway Under the stars

Sutton was the best, what a great performance, I liked her on the telecast so much!
