I don't think Stamos was all that bad. Maybe he's gotten better since previews started - that I can't answer. But I went in expecting him to be awful and he wasn't.
Brian, Eric McCormack is a great idea. His show got canceled so he's free
When I saw the GMA videos I noticed that families were all dressed in the same color and wondered about that. When I saw the show on stage it didn't bother me in the least.
As I said in the review I linked to I'm undecided on Irwin. There were times I thought he was great and there were times I wished he'd go away. But the performance he's giving is 100% better than a Paul Lynde impression that I've seen in other productions. Better he make the role his own than have it be a caricture of someone else.

Posted: 10/6/09 at 12:32pmI was at this show's first preview and I enjoyed the performance and I am hoping to return again after the show officially opens. I think replacing Gina Gershon would go a long way towards improving the show, and there should be scads of young males to replace Nolan Funk. I think Eric McCormack would make a great Albert, especially if he can pull off the "Put on a Happy Face" dance break. John Stamos is certainly trying and putting in the effort, but he's not the star performer the show needs quite yet

Eric McCormack was one of the men Roundabout was trying to get for the role, but he either wasn't interested in the material or wasn't interested in theatre at the time.
I don't think this show will extend, but if, by chance, it did...they would have to hold some EPAs for replacements. I think it would be nice to find a nobody who was sensational to rock out the role of Rose. Pair that nobody next to someone like Eric McCormack and I think you'd have a nice combination. You don't need big names for this show. The show is the star and will sell tickets all by itself.
