Roundabout’s FULL MONTY Revival Cancelled/Postponed?

I just spoke to a friend of mine who works with Roundabout and he informed me (unprovoked) that they’ve put the kibosh on the upcoming FULL MONTY revival for the spring, and instead bringing in a play yet to be announced.

Everything is still on the website though.

Obviously, there is still quite some time before it was scheduled to go into rehearsal and they had workshops over the summer, so I’m very curious as to what the pitfall is here and if this is actually the case - especially since I bought my subscription this season in part because of this revival.

I also agree that it’s disappointing. Maybe Rhinoceros is great, but I wanted a musical.

So, a friend of mine who was in the workshops found out last week from one of the lead producers that it has been “postponed” with the hope of bringing it back “eventually”.

So the revival is indeed cancelled for now, but what the replacement is remains to be seen

I'm thrilled with this news. We'll get FULL MONTY eventually.

I heard this late last week and also heard Rhinoceros is the replacement. I assume they are quickly mobilizing to get marketing materials ready and confirming star schedules.

Bummed and surprised that Monty is being postponed, but I love Ionesco so to have Rhinoceros, arguably his greatest work, with such a stacked cast is exciting.

Is there any word on why it's being postponed?

Two of the cast members are on track to possibly get Oscar nominations this year. That alone makes it worth making it happen while the iron is hot.

This is not a reason why any show would be postponed at a major institution.

It’s easy to assume they hit a snag with creative development or casting or with Leigh Silverman’s schedule.

Musicals tend to be tentpole productions for Roundabout seasons and there’s no way they would cancel or postpone an announced production unless there was a something making it unviable.

Not to mention it's been announced and people have subscribed. You don't mess with this until you're forced to.
