Allie would be a great Kim. The guy who played Brett in 13 would be a good Hugo.

I really feel like the actors to play the teenage characters should be a bit older. I know Kim and Hugo are supposed to be in high school, but at least cast 17-18 year olds.

I also can't imagine anyone from Spring Awakening sounding vocally appropriate for the period.

yeah but when you deal with Broadway, they usually have like 35-40 year olds playing teens and that is absolutely stupid. Just give kids who can do it a chance who are the real age!

I understand your point, but there are teenagers who sing in a more traditional musical theatre style. Don't feel you need to limit casting options to teenagers who have already been on Broadway-- for Bye-Bye Birdie, Spring Awakening-style vocals would NOT work, but that doesn't automatically mean that there are NO other teenagers who can play the roles.

I am sure there are a bunch of kids out there who could do it that we do not even know about yet!

Then I guess we're in agreement there!

Nathan Lane would be a terrific Harry as well. Now the eternal question is: which Jonas brother will play Conrad?
...just kidding.

I sure do hope they can rope Cheyenne Jackson as Birdie!

Ha, that WOULD be fun, Pianolin. Though he's already done his 'Elvis' bit on Broadway.

I'm so excited about this production. Hopefully, they will get it right.
My ideal would be a Torch Song Reunion of Matthew Broderick as Albert and Harvey Fierstein as Harry McAfee.

I would love to see Charlotte D'Ambrose (sp) as Rosie. Cheyanne as Conrad, Tayne Daly(Sp) reprising her role as Mae, Harvey Firestien or Nathan Lane as Harry Macafee.

I really do want to see Tyne Daly back as Mae-- I thought she was wonderful in the film. (Assuming you did mean Tyne Daly and not Taye Diggs!
)

The last workshop Roundabout did (which was also directed by Robert Longbottom) was very positively recieved.
That cast included Gavin Lee (who replaced Tom Cavanagh at the last minute) as Albert, Stephanie J. Block as Rosie, Benjamin Walker as Conrad, Bill Irwin as Mr. MacAfee, Kaitlin Hopkins as Mrs. MacAfee, Meredith Hagner as Kim, Matt Doyle as Hugo, Harrison Chad as Harvey, and Sarah Hyland as Ursula.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

After seeing the dog that is "Pal Joey", another musical from Roundabout is almost scary, even if it is one of my all time favorites.

Roundabout has had a few clunkers, but they're also the people who did the revivals of NINE, CABARET, ASSASSINS, and THE PAJAMA GAME.
It's not always bad.

I know he's like REALLY old for the role, but I always picture Christian Borle as Hugo.

The thing is, unless Conrad and Hugo are also super-young, Allie Trimm as Kim would be unbearably pederastic (is that a word?)
On second thought, maybe James Barbour WOULD be good as Conrad.

I said it before, but I think Phoebe Strole would be a great Kim.

I'm honestly not so excited about this production, as I'm not the biggest fan of Birdie. But if they could get some of this casting, it could be great! I agree with whoever said Jackie Hoffman as Mae. She'd be hilarious.
