I guess they need to pay off this new theater. But damn. They can't do better than $86.50 for the cheapest seat?

People will probably opt to go to their local middle school production of BYE BYE BIRDIE for $5.00 a ticket and spend their Broadway money on shows they can't see all over the rest of the country.
I might have to agree with you on this one.
I bet you there will be discount codes galore.
Good grief thats so stupid
I didn't realize Mel Brooks was producing it.

J'aime, thank you for the laugh .
These prices are ridiculous though...
Aren't these the same prices as Billy Elliot sans the $40 last row seats? I seem to remember a big jump from the norm when their tix went on sale.
Front Rear Mezz at BE is $80, not $100.
And like you said, Rear Mezz is $40, not $80.
Roundabout is pricing out a big part of the population by making the cheapest tickets $87.00.
But the pricing isn't really "new" it's the way of the world these days. SADLY.
There will be discounts. There will have to be.
Birdie was my very first show I performed in when I was only 8, so it DOES have a soft spot in my heart. My daughter has a soft spot for Funk that now plays Birdie. My son loves the image of Birdie. So we'll be going....and probably sooner rather than later.
Don't forget all the Spring Awakening fangirls that ADORE Matt Doyle...they'll be flocking in droves. In general, I think they have cast this for optimum young audience appeal.

Considering Roundabout's track record last season (excepting Waiting for Godot), they have their bloody nerve charging those prices. There's no superstar in it to justify the higher prices, Roundabout is notorious for its pared-down production values, under-orchestration and generally unsatisfactory productions when it comes to musicals. It's not the ticket buyers' fault that they may have to be paying off a new mortgage, rental fee or whatever. Pity the poor suckered-in theatregoer who spends these dollars expecting something spectacular and gets this for his/her hard-earned money. Absolutely disgusting and I hope it gets creamed by the critics, causing further financial embarrassment to Roundabout. I would assume that the season tickets will go up also and that enough subscribers will cancel their memberships. Fie on Roundabout!!!!!

As much as I love Matt Doyle, I am going to wait for discounts on this one.

Ed-
And, no offense, but I *really* hope this turns out to be a phenomenal production, so that the Roundabout haters (Which, while I agree a lot of their work has been shoddy, I don't have the hate-on many do) can eat crow.
I also think it's terrible of you to wish that subscribers wouldn't renew, especially during this economy, and especially on a non-profit and even more especially, when that non-profit seems to be the only one reviving some of the lesser musicals, like Apple Tree, Sunday in the Park and Pal Joey.
Edited b/c Ed wasn't the post immediately above mine.
I assume there's gonna be discounts, but wow. They've got some nerve charging the same as Billy Elliot and Wicked (though both of those shows have cheaper seats available).

Small theatre + big musical = high prices.
This isn't rocket science.
I dont understand the OTT prices on Broadway
Figures which came out last week showed the West End had a higher attendence yet smaller amount made than Broadway...that should tell you something.

Thank you, Mottershead, for your early review. It tells me more about YOU than about theater.

Husk-Charmer and Times Square, I don't think you read my message in the spirit that it was intended. When I said "pity the poor, etc., etc.," I was referring to the individuals for whom theatre-going is an occasional luxury and their being misled by the high prices into thinking they were going to get some super-spectacular show with great scenic effects, full orchestra, dazzling stars, etc., etc. I fail to see how my comments reflected on me as a theatregoer rather than the Roundabout's unwarranted pricing. Trust me, I am NOT a devotee of shows like Wicked, Little Mermaid, Tarzan and other overblown shows where the physical effects seem to overpower the quality of the material at hand. Followers of this board who've chosen to read my comments will need no pursuading as to my feelings about the Roundabout in general -- feelings that started in the early 1980s and continue to this day. MTC and Lincoln Center seem to be able to offer quality work on a fairly regular basis -- Roundabout is a different story.
Could we, perhaps, wait until at least PREVIEWS start before bashing the production. It could end up being wonderful. I know I am rooting for it to be.
I want this to be a good production, but can't they at least drop the prices on the last couple of rows to around $50? I'm grateful for the Hiptix program, but I know not everyone qualifies for that.
They usually have rush that's available for everyone... I would assume that will continue at the new theatre as well...
^^I hope so as well. I do know they do the half-price student ticket close to curtain, but half off of $126 is still a little steep for most students (though most in the area may know about Hiptix).
I just wish there was a little more variety to the ticket pricing for those wishing to purchase ahead of time, but alas, it is a name-show that can sell I'm sure.
