Man... I really wanted to like it.... I didn't.
You can watch it here:

There is also a video of "The Telephone Hour" on there...
Edit: Just watched "Telephone Hour", and it's the whole song, performed onstage. Worth a look. Not saying it was good, however.....

Well. I'll say something nice. You know this number in the original movie is actually really wonderful.
EDIT: I can't say anything nice about that staging of "The Telephone Hour."

It looked like a high school production from the forced choreography to the unrealistic way people reacted. BLAH!

I was willing to give this the benefit of the doubt but after that, it just did nothing for me. Bill Irwin was the best bit of that!

Was there a rule in the 50's the families had to wear the same color?

Great clips. Thanks for the links. I want this show to be better too. It should be. Now will someone please revive this revival before it officially opens?

Wow. I really was triyng to be open minded about this, but... Funk just seems completely bereft of any charisma.

Robert Longbottom needs to be kept far, far away from ever touching another musical again.

No kidding! I'm about to add that Telephone hour to the Bad High School musical videos thread.
And the microphone has more sex appeal than Birdie!
Epic fail.

What an embarrassment. Despite all the bad word of mouth I was going to buy a ticket to this anyway. How can Stamos and Gershon be the low points when this is how they handle the scenes with the kids?
The lowest of the low has to be Longbottom's choreography. Completely lifeless and without any sense of rhythm, movement, or dramatic motivation. Why does Kim and Hugo's entrance in the middle of "Telephone Hour" feel like an afterthought? These are two of the main players in the show. And why do we need to see Hugo pin Kim? He's already pinned her, hence the entire reason the song exists in the first place.
I would offer more suggestions but I don't want to do this insulting production any favors.

OMG ... its even worse now than at the first preview. Absolutely dreadful. And to think that some people posted that they thought Funk gave a great performance. I said it before and I'll say it again .. Funk stunk.

Weird. How do they stage this number and not get ONE of the jokes?

Wow, Nolan's voice is a lot deeper than I expected!
I surprisingly liked the new staging of "The Telephone Hour" better than I thought I would but they took out my favorite part, the boys' "ooobide dooh..doo doo do wahh..." and I feel like all the girl notes are way to high, I laughed every time the girls sang "Going Steady."

You know I had thought people here were too hard on this show- 'How bad could it be' I thought?
But those two numbers are dreadful. Worse than any High school production. I really think the big shot director had NO IDEA what he was doing. When you do a worse job then a random high school chorus teacher, you really ought to seek other employment. That telephone hour was horrendous- Kids in a single line? And do they really not understand the basic simple thing like "THE KIDS ARE ALL ON THE PHONE"? That's the POINT of the song. You don't need to do a lot of exposition or Fosse-esque choreography but you do need to have the kids cross cords or get tangled up or even just strike bizarre, funny poses as they talk on the phone. Doors and Wall Phones? I mean really. Just how stupid are they? Have the never SEEN this show? Did they even READ the stage directions? The Tams Witmark script really kind of walks you through it 1-2-3. "Ursula slams the phone down...Harvey clicks the receiver a few times before hanging up and looking in the phone book for another girl to try."
They really didn't score a single laugh in a song I thought was all but impossible to de-laugh.
