blaxx -- a little advice... research before you attempt a witty remark.

CARRIE did not fail because of lack of an audience. In fact, previews were sold-out nightly and many people returned to see the show. Even Betty Buckley has commented on how crazy those preview audiences were and the sold-out status, etc.

Why did the show abruptly close? As expected, the reviews were horrible and the German producers, who were novices to Broadway, panicked and chose to close the show immediately. Even with a nice advance in ticket sales.

Betty Buckley stated to the press on closing night that the show could have enjoyed a nice run based on the ticket sales alone. Again... the German producers panicked and jumped the gun. Thankfully, in this day and age of word-of-mouth... shows no longer close due to bad reviews (WICKED anyone?). If the audiences keep buying tickets, the show will keep running... no matter how bad it is.

true or not, it was a clever remark from Blaxx. bravo!

I know the material. the show itself is terrible. the score is pretty bad except for "Not Alone" (is that the right name?) and the slower ballad song that Betty sang as tears just streamed down her face.

Oh, sorry, I didn't know it was a sold out sensation that was bringing in millions of dollars and crowds galore, but just felt very sad for the reviews...sorry, really.

And I do like some of the score.

I think Carolee Carmello would make a fantastic Margaret White. She has that same emotionally fragile yet piercing tone that Buckley has.

One day.....

CARRIE, imho, has potential. What it needs is a director who understands musical theatre (what a concept), and can stage it in a more realistic setting (not a big white box that represents... what, exactly?). The sets were a mess, the costumes as far off base as possible, the choreography completely wrong and schizophrenic.

As for potentially great Margarets? Dee Hoty or Louise Pitre would sing the hell out of that score!

And I'd love to produce, Not Barker. Le Sigh.

In a concert, maybe. But Betty's getting kinda old to play Margaret in a full our revival.
