Kad said: "The issue I’m having with it is that, divorced from the visuals and experience, this just sounds like another production of Cats but with more character voices. There is no sense of reinvention or even how exciting this was onstage. It also just highlights how much further they could’ve gone with the orchestrations and arrangements."

This. For a production with SUCH a distinct and unique POV, this track sounds strangely ordinary? Not that it's bad - it's not at all! It's just missing that spark that was so tangible live.

Am I crazy? Maybe it's because I was lucky enough to see if off and on Broadway (thank God. It should be running today). But, I recognize all of their voices immediately...they're making their own choices vocally. The wall of sound during the all-sing is nuts. It might not be much different musically (same as the production. It was basically a revert to the original, more electronic 80s orchestration) BUT, it certainly sounds more massive and clearer and more exciting than any old recording of Cats.

This mix is a bit too sterile and grid-locked for my taste. The live performance was pure magic, and it really deserved a raw, authentic recording to do it justice. Here's hoping the rest of the cast album captures that genuine stage presence.
