After the precipitous drop in ratings for the Tony Awards, those in the know are dropping hints that the Tiffany Network may be prepared to let it go the way of the Miss America Pageant - basic cable graveyard.

I wish it would head to HBO. Then they could show all the awards and not focus on the ratings.

Nah, it'll stay. The ratings have never been great. What they need to realize is that every person watching on TV loves Broadway enough to want to see all the awards. I'm talking about the History that Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron made last night.

Aren't they contracted with CBS for several more years?

Like they're going to pull it when they've already signed Jane Lynch's contract.

The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing have a contract with CBS until at least 2018. So no, they aren't pulling the plug.

I hope they don't! Even if the ratings are low, it's only 3 hours of the entire year! What harm does it do?

I'd imagine it's about 5 million down the drain...

Love the EW article as well! Happy the speech is online but can't believe it wasn't air on television after all the hard work the team put into the show!

"those in the know are dropping hints"
"Those in the know" is an odious cliché, an odious cliché.

CBS is taking a major money hit losing Letterman this year.
The suits could be trying to see if there is any way they can wiggle out of it. We shall see

That's one of my favorite terms. "The suits". I just envision a couple of guys sitting behind huge oak desks dressed in loud pinstripes, chomping on cigars and talking like Sheldon Leonard. "We gotta dump this loosa. Bring me ideas people".

Why dont they get James Corden to host? He's now a big draw on CBS. Makes sense to me.

Another thread overflowing with inaccuracy...
1. CBS makes money on the Tonys.
2. CBS has a contract for the Tonys.
3. The producers who fund and control the Tonys are friends with the people who control all 3 networks.
4. The Tonys aren't going anywhere.
5. Ask Robert Greenblatt whether he would rather have the Tonys or Dateline on sunday night.

CBS pulling the plug on the Tonys is like cspan pulling the plug on the congressional committee on health.
