"No two shows are alike in the making. Each show is a living piece of your life in a small unreal world with its own character and integrity; its own new set of memorable experiences and incredible happenings. You begin to love and adapt to its strangeness. Dreams harden into substance. Values come into focus. You wish it would never end. The dream world vanishes like mist before a rising sun; part of you vanishes with it. And back you land in the real world with a thud- fogged, uneasy, jittery, difficult to get along with. There is only one cure. A new show. A new, small unreal world; new visions, experiences, incredible happenings. Again you love it, adapt to it, wish it would never end. But end it does. Another part of you vanishes. That's show business."-Anonymous

Mister Matt: FAME???? Come on, that's not shameful, that's an ace show.

Evita Korean Cast. I would kill to hear that. And Princess Diana? When was that performed? I must own it for gay value.

Fame the movie is wonderful. Fame the musical is simply awful. Had they used the songs from the film, it might have been ok, but there is a reason the show has never been successful in the US. How it has remained in the West End so long is a mystery to me.

The Korean Evita is fun to hear simply for shock value. Apparently, the orchestra and the voices were recorded seperately because the chorus get about half a measure behind the orchestra in Requiem for Evita. It's really bizarre.

Princess Diana is a concept recording. I don't believe it was actually produced. It's so bad it's bad. Not even good for camp value.

Are you kidding Bwaybaby109?? Disney songs rock!!

The only CD I am truly embarressed I ever bought is not a musical... rather Chumbawumba... I thought I was sweet... actually, back in the day I bought N'Sync too... oh deary, I'm glad I grew out of the horrendous music phase!

re: CD's You're Embarrassed You DO Own

I just tucked away my copy of "Princess Diana- The Musical". Geez is that god awful. Quite a few of my off-Broadway acquisitions are list worthy too ("A Stoop on Orchid Street" quickly comes to mind). Most embarrassing though is an old LP I found not long ago of a studio cast version of "Gypsy" starring Kay Medford of "Funny Girl" and "Bye Bye Birdie" fame. This one HAS to be heard to be believed. As for "Disco Ethel", I kinda got to admit, I'm still in the market for this one.

COCO, probably the most unlistenable cast recording EVER!

ChrisLovesShows, what's wrong with BABY? Some of the music on that CD is pretty catchey ("Fatherhood Blues", "I Want It All".
Praying Decca Broadway will put "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope" on CD!

re: CD's You're Embarrassed You DO Own

I guess having both starlight express CDs is a little embarrassing for me, but not nearly as much as Princess Dina: the musical. wtf??? evita on acid...

re: CD's You're Embarrassed You DO Own

You're embarrassed about The Last Five Years? Come on!

As for me, I'd have to say I'm not especially proud of (or maybe saying buying them was somewhat embarrassing is better):

Annie
Pump Boys and Dinettes
...and most of the other showtunes I bought during middle/high school when I lived in a small town and the cashiers looked at me funny... :)

re: CD's You're Embarrassed You DO Own

Annie may be overdone, but it truly is a wonderful score. And I LOVE Pump Boys and Dinettes! I guess it's a Southern thing, but it always reminds me of home. If it's produced well, it is a dynamite show.

Theater Related

I love all of my theater recordings. I guess I shop wise. Though I admit I'm not really fond of Dreamgirls (OBC). I bought it mostly for the cheap price and the hype from my classmates.

Matt, I do very much enjoy them, too, but I was embarrassed to buy PBAD. I remember I had to special order it because the record store was too small.

Sigh...
