I understand that I am in the minority, but I thoroughly enjoyed this and to hear that is closing is very upsetting to me.

The comnercials were recycled from the Spring with some pull quote graphics thrown in. When I saw that I knew it was near the end. I had really high hopes for this having seen the West End production. It was disappointing on so many levels and I'm a huge Christian Borle and Jackie Hoffman fan. My favorite memory of this show will be seeing Jack O'Brien in Sardi's DURING the opening night performance. Word of mouth was already bad.

I guess I need to enter the lottery and see this hot mess.
I feel like Summer would be better at the Nederlander.

Agreed.
Epic fail.
The producers were envisaging a run of at least 5 years.
Such a waste of the source material.
I saw this and it didn't really have a target audience, the set felt quite barren, and I didn't enjoy anything besides Christian Borle. This didn't have a place on Broadway, it would've been better as a tour or on the west end.

I really enjoyed the show and was a huge fan - but it's understandable why it closed. It's a kids show, and for tickets about the same price, Aladdin is more appealing to a lot of people simply because it is Disney. I preferred this to Aladdin tbh. The show itself had a lot of potential, but ended up being pretty lackluster if you were grading it just based off of writing, score, and script. I'm very sad to see it go since it is my second favorite show I've seen aside from GHD. I'm hoping to win the lottery again, or maybe I'll try and snag tickets for the final performance
My guts telling me that the Donna Summer musical will be filling this theatres spot. Also, i know they announced it a shubert theatre, but i swear if the Prom takes that theatre. Yikes.

Prom doesn’t even start for another year so they certainly won’t be going to the Lunt. Donna Summer seems far more realistic since it’s aiming for this season.
They want to bring this crap to Australia , we’ll pass thanks

What a mortifying evening at the theater. Not a surprise. I am SO excited to see what Christian does next, he is such a brilliant actor.

I completely agree. I was disappointed when I saw Charlie simply because I thought the actors could be in a much better show. I'm hoping Christian does something that is not targeted at children this time around. He really is great.
It's always interesting to me how people will purchase tickets to something based on name alone, hence this show's crazy advance. In my opinion, while still a flawed piece, Amelie was even a better show and it didn't even play 1/3 of the performances than this slap-in-the-face did.
Even so, I hope the cast/crew can soon find work that is more worthy of their talent!

So, my friend coming to visit got very excited and entered all of the Broadway lotteries. She won CATCF so I guess we are going. I am almost dreading it based on what I’ve heard from you guys. Maybe we will have a few cocktails beforehand.
Has anyone won the lottery - were the seats decent at least?

I won the lotto last week, seats were in the orchestra and had a perfect view, I forgot the row

Awesome! Closer to the front or back? What did you think of the show?

Just checked my ticket, row Q seat 18, could see everything perfectly though. Overall I didn't hate it as much as others but like most I was disappointed in the sets and that aspect definitely brings the show down to me because it really makes you think what if they did it this way or that way. I am glad I only paid the lotto price though.
I just can't fathom why'd they do Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the cheap? Like WTF.

Our seats were pretty bad, way back of the mezz. It was far. And the tourists in front of us didn’t take off their winter hats with huge fluffy balls sticking up on top. I’m starting to think talking through shows is the new norm and I can’t expect anyone to be quiet for 2 hours anymore. The show wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, but it was not good. Not unwatchable, but not Broadway-worthy at all.
That squirrel ballet...I mean..I ...just...can't.
The stuff of Broadway legends.
Even though the show isnt very good, Why are they closing? They are breaking box office records and are pulling in over 2 million. Is this cause of the holidays or?

Where are you seeing breaking records and 2 million dollars? I think it’s just that it’s advance is abysmal.
That makes sense, and heres the article

It likely had no advance for the winter. Otherwise they would have kept it open until Spring break at least.
