I have the Playbill and I didnt seen an understudy or standby for Williams.
Andrea Goss (Frenchie) is listed as Williams' understudy.
My playbill lists Andrea Goss as the Sally Bowles understudy.
You can bet the cast/crew didn't have the night off. They were most likely rehearsing the understudy incase they need to go on for Saturday's shows.

Unfortunately actors (like most people) get sick sometimes and have to miss work.
CABARET is also a nightmare when someone is out because the ensemble plays the score- so you are also dealing with covering instrumental tracks.
My 2 bits worth-As Mr Cumming has done the show before he should by rights need less rehersal time than the others as from what I have read he is playing it exactly the same way as before, so the understudy surely could have been worked in there along side whatever else he does in the show.

Alan Cumming will be out again for the matinee. However, the show will go on with understidu Leeds Hill making his debut as Emcee.
I'm very disappointed because the only reason I splurged on a wonderful ticket to see this show was to finally see Alan do it. I have tickets tonight. If Alan isn't going on will Roundabout give me a hard time about exchanging for another performance?
TotallyEffed- Alan is above the title, so you should be able to exchange your tickets pretty easily if he is still out.

Just because he's done the show before doesn't mean he isn't entitled to the same amount of rehearsal time as everyone else...I'd hardly expect him to remember everything after the amount of time it's been since he's done it.
I don't really know what people don't understand about this, understudies not being rehearsed before previews begin is a pretty common occurrence. As someone else said, all of the rehearsal time allotted is being devoted to rehearsing the actors who will be playing the roles on a regular basis and there isn't time/money/personnel to separately rehearse the understudies in the tracks they are covering. This is a pretty unusual circumstance, and I'm sure Cumming is pretty ill to not go on, especially in the first week of previews.

Just got my ticket exchanged for today's matinee. Going on April 6th instead. Here's hoping the full cast will be in that day :)
on twitter roundabout said you can exchange or have your ticket refunded!

Could I just please make a suggestion? Instead of saying "Cabaret Cancelled Tonight" as a subject heading (only an example not to single anyone out), could people put in the date in the title. Otherwise, days go bye with people in a panic reading "today" and it really applied to a different "today."

Damn, just read the site for the first time today at 1:55p that Alan is out of the matinee, as I totally would have gone to see Leeds. If Alan is out tonight, I might try again, which brings up the question...
If Roundabout has a house emptying because Alan calls out, how would someone get a discounted/papered ticket to get in?
I have tickets for Tuesday, and would be totally intrigued if Leeds was on. That would be really exciting IMO.
My 2 cents on the whole situation is Cumming's must be very sick, because he did that insane 100+ show run of Macbeth last season and I don't recall him ever canceling. I really hope he feels better!

Roundabout replied to my e-mail saying they have a cancellation line, but that any tickets would be full price. Something missing there, assuming a lot of people bailing on the seats that they wouldn't be offering... something to fill them up, no?

No tickets available online, just don't want to go all the way to midtown if all of the cheaper seats are still available...
Then again, though... that picture.

Jeff, we'd never fight over the same guy. LOL.
why do they five the playbills out at the end of the show?
To maintain the nightclub style atmosphere. Suspend your belief that you're in a theater for a while:)
The first act just finished! I heard many people had their reservations since Alan was out, yet Leeds is giving a great performace. Definitely bummed I won't be able to see Alan on this trip, yet the whole cast is doing a tremendous job and I'm glad I stayed. This is my first time seeing the show and so far I am absolutely loving it!

Interesting that the BWW headline is that they expect Alan back tonight, but on Twitter Roundabout says they won't know until after 6 p.m.
