So in March I saw Dear Evan Hansen but I lost my Playbill. If I were to write a letter to one of the cast members would they send one because I do not want to pay money for them. I stopped in at the box office yesterday and they said that they don't have them in there but is the cast even allowed to send Playbills out?
If you just want a copy and it doesn't need to be signed, just write your letter to the stage manager. And remember to include a self addressed stamped envelope that is big enough to hold a playbill.
1. They don't physically have them in the box office (this is standard)
2. Yes, they can mail them out.
3. Follow the advice from Marianne2

When i went to NYC I went to the box office and asked for a Playbill and they gave me one, but it al depends on if they have them back there and how nice the person at the counter is. If you explain that you actually saw the show and just misplaced your playbill they may be more likely to give you one. But like I said, it depends on the person there. You can also try going during a show and ask one of the ushers in the lobby to run in and grab you one. Again no guarentee, but both worth a shot if you can easily get to the theater!
Or go in while the show is letting out. There are usually pretty easy to find on the floor

Also, I don't know if this is at all important to you, but the Playbill you receive now will be slightly different from the one they had in March. The bios have been updated with Tony wins, etc. The cover and everything is still the same.

bumping this, has anyone tried this recently? if so, is it better to go during the day after the box office opens or during a show?
The stage door is active very early so just knock on the door and ask whoever opens the door for a Playbill. They tend to have them lying around there so it isnt any bother to them. Box office staff is busy so unless they have extras lying around them, theyre not going to stop and go look for one.

When you write to an actor/actress you wont get a specific monthed playbill. I wrote to Roman Banks and got a Sept playbill yet I wrote to him in Dec.
If you want a certain date, you can go on ebay. It is very reliable for playbills and cheap!
For full cast signed playbills of DEH, You can write to the S.M. but you have to donate to BCEFA
