"Blog Of A Millie"

DAY 2
We're off and running with the first national middle school tour of "Millie"! Now that I am a leeading lady, I've decided to change my last name in honor of the lady who inspires me. People stop me and say we look alike (check out the pics..It must be the hair!). I sent Kristen a letter and I'm sure she'll be at our opening Saturday!
Today, the sets arrived and it is FABULOUS!! Our director says it's the Broadway tour set (check out the pics!!). It's a much better set than the one we had last year for "Marie Christine".
Today we blocked and staged Act One in 47 minutes. I really don't know why it takes Broadway people soooo long to stage a show! I guess our cast is just soooo super talented! Our "Jimmy" (Sterling is his name! :) ) is so cute and I'm gonna make him my boyfriend! He's so sweet. Today he made musaka and marzipan for the whole cast! I mean..wow! He's such a great cook and help our director placing the furniture on the stage. He has such good taste. And that N'SYNC t-shirt he wore today drove me crazy! XOOOOO
The cast is great. We have two great guys playing Bing Fung and Boo Whoo (I think that's their names..well, they're supporting characters so it's ok that I forgot who they are). Tony Mecelli and Gino DiGarmo are great. But I think something is wrong. I listened to the OBC recording and I told Mr. Pecklar what the problem was...they're suppose to be GERMAN! Anyone who listens to it can tell! Duuhhhh!
We open in 4 days! I'm so excited! It will be such an inspiration to bring a smile to middle class kids. Loves and kissies!

Our drama teacher was so paranoid. She was afraid of getting sued by companies (a logical fear), so we had to do these horrible little plays. Myabe they did it illigaly.
When you think about it, wasn't Millie just made for a drag production? It screams cheesey camp

I've directed dozens of high school plays and musicals and have worked with some really clueless staff members who want to do shows that are currently playing on Broadway. They have no idea about Tams-Witmark or Samuel French. They've just seen the show and want to present it on the high school stage. Also, they have no idea about what casting is. I've endured SOUTH PACIFICs where Emile could hardly carry a tune and NO NO NANNETE where Nanette looked like a pregnant cow.
My favorite story, though, is about a neighboring school that was doing ANNIE well after the show closed on Bwy. The director (who was the school's home ec teacher) videotaped the Kathy Bates TV version and then typed out the script--giving the cast photocopied sheets with their lines on them at each rehearsal. Needless to say, the show was a shambles.
Musical Theatre International the licensing company has the rights for the show. MTISHOWS.com or something like that. So they did do it legally.
Musicians striked last year because of a threatening managment. They were going to replace the pit orchestras with automated CDs for actors to sing with.
Sorry...rights to Millie for regional mountings are NOT available and certainly not available for middle schools.
