I'm sure they upped his paycheck and he changed his mind.
And I'm sure he's in for a TONY. Not many other male lead roles that looks so promising this year.

Posted: 11/9/12 at 6:33amEven if there were many other lead male roles this year, he would still be a frontrunner. This role is Tony bait. It's very showy and has some great comedic moments. Add that to the fact that he's absolutely brilliant in the role and you've got a combination that's very hard to beat.

I agree that it isn't a 'leading' role...and, depending on what else is coming in, they'd be smart to put him in featured. Thought I tend to agree that the Tony is his in whichever category. Featured just seems like a surer bet.
I'm glad he's coming over. There's not an actor around that I can think of who could do what he's doing. Sieber is the closest.

Well that is wonderful news! I'm really happy for him. He seemed pretty set that he would not reprise the role anytime soon, but clearly things change.
Broadway you're in for a treat. The show is alright, but Bertie's performance really made it for me!!

@SonofRobbieJ, thanks for agreeing
It's true though... To me, if he's in the Leading category, it could be another Brian Bedford / Danny Burstein fiasco... Either of those men would've had a shot at winning Tonys for Earnest & Follies respectively had they been petitioned for featured.. Hope they choose wisely for Mr. Carvel.
