It reminds me of every other musical adaptation of a movie that has nothing musical about it at all. Legally Blonde, High Fidelity, Summer of 42, on and on and on...
It seems that as soon as a fluff movie comes to mind, the musical casting thoughts begin. How about a musical stage version of The Princess and the Frog? Or Twilight? Or Dinner With Schmucks?
Incidently, she never posed for Playboy. She worked part-time at a photograpy studio when she was attending Syracuse University. She did an experimental photo shoot for the photograper as a favor and for some extra money. The photos were never meant to see the light of day. She thought that he couldn't do anything with the photos because she never signed a release. After she won Miss America the photographer decided to try and make a few bucks and sold them to Penthouse.
I love the idea of Debra Monk as Morningside. That could be perfection. And Katie Finneran needs to be in it, but I'd see her as more Texas than Rhode Island. Texas has the most funny lines, at least in the movie, and Katie would amplify Texas's assumption that she had the title in the bag hilariously. But if was rewritten to make Rhode Island more than a boring naive innocent, then it could be a good enough part for her.
