I just got a great deal on a ton of cast recordings at my local used CD shop and had to share it with you guys. They were having a buy 3 get 1 free sale so I went in and searched through their entire "soundtracks" section where the cast recordings are always filed.
Anyway, I was able to buy all of the following for just $175:
West Side Story (OBC)
Jane Eyre (OBC)
Mamma Mia (OBC)
Annie Get Your Gun (Bernadette)
Sunset Blvd (American Premiere w/Glenn Close)
Sunset Blvd (World Premiere with/Patti Lupone)
Movin' Out (OBC)
Amour (Broadway Premiere)
Fame on 42nd Street (New York Recording)
Fame (Original American Recording)
Caroline, or Change (OBC)
Sweet Smell of Success (OBC)
Gypsy (Motion Picture Sountrack)
The Fantasticks (Original Cast)
Bright Lights, Big City
Fosse (OBC)
Kiss of the Spider Woman (OBC)
Full Monty, The (OBC)
Hair (Actors' Fund Concert)
A Chorus Line (OBC)
Les Miserables (Symphonic)
Iron Man, The (Pete Townshend Concept Album)
Even going through Amazon.com which would have likely been the cheapest possible scenario it would have been $390.68 before shipping and that doesn't even include "Fame on 42nd Street" because it's out of print.
Most of these albums were either on my "to get" list or my "should have already had list" anyway, so it wasn't a stretch. I did put several things back.
To help off set the cost I am now going through all of my CDs and DVDs to see what I can take over there and sell.

Congratulations!
Patronus, as a cast album collector let me say: I'm quite proud of you today.
I am also a cast recording collector. Some of the older "staple" stuff like West Side Story I used to have and it was stolen.
Some of the newer stuff I was holding out until Christmas to buy, but I couldn't pass this up today!
We should all post our collections on here to compare and contrast. Of course that means I'd have to reveal that the only version of Gypsy that I own is the film soundtrack.

my local used CD store rarely has any cast recordings... when they do it's usually something I already have. they'd never have something like "Fame on 42nd Street", "Caroline, or Change" or the NEW "Hair" Actors' Fund Concert CD???? no way...
Where do you go?
I go to this trendy little place on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks, CA.
I suspect most people are buying CDs and copying them and then selling them while they are still hot. They would rarely get anything remotely decent or cast recordings at all.
Today they had a ton of U2 in there, which is really odd.
Patronus - as someone who has also gotten very excited over finding discounted cast recordings, GOOD JOB!
Those are all great cds -- if I didn't have them already I'd be hunting down that store myself!
I shouldn't tell this because I don't want people outbidding me, but the best place to go is ebay. I've gotten some incredible deals on CDs where people just didn't know what they were selling.

Trendy little place in Sherman Oaks? Must be Freakbeat or Second Spin.
Yeah, it's Second Spin. Not sure why I called it trendy, because that isn't really accurate. It's more, hip than trendy I suppose.
Never heard of Freakbeat, where is it?

Wow that is so awesome!!! Good job. Now where do you live again....
Heh, when I come see your production of Into the Woods (assuming gas prices drop) maybe I'll bring them and you can look at them.
Wow, that's great!!!

Not to be picky but did you mean the Mamma Mia OLC?
Yes, I did. It's the Decca Broadway, Original Cast Album.
Those get me every time.
How much does a new CD cost in the States? An import Cast Recording of a Broadway show sells for around $34 Australian dollars, that's about US $28. Local releases of same are about AUS $27. What would, say DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS sell for?
Anywhere from $13.99 to $18.99 depending on where you buy it. Unless you get it at the theatre and then it's probably $25.

I'm plotzing. I really am.
Boy are we being had! Though buyng through Amazon.com seems cheaper at times by the time you add on international postage etc... ah what can you do?
Patronus, you and I must live near by. I am in Sherman Oaks about 3 minutes away from Second Spin. Hi nieghbor! We should check out each others cast recordings!
Most Broadway imports here in the UK cost around £16.99 (around $31!) in the shops. Domestically released CDs are from £9-13.99 ($18-25).
I think I'll be hitting the record shops when I get to New York!
Yeah, I live in Encino, Yipper!
Nice to see another Valley guy on the boards.

Studio City here.
If you haven't, both Freakbeat and Heavy Rotation are both worth checking out as they have really good stuff from time to time.
