but it looks like another "What-if" FOLLIES production.
HUH?? Because Kim Cattrall dropped out? I was excited for her casting, but she could have turned out to be a disaster.
Donna Murphy (based on http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=safari&rls=en&&sa=X&ei=CsKhTNqTOZLSuwOOopjYAw&ved=0CBQQvwUoAQ&q=donna+murphy+height&spell=1)
vs
Bernadette Peters (http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=safari&rls=en&q=Bernadette+Peters++height&aq=f&aqi=g3&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=)
THe thicker 'body' of Donna might bias it.
I think we need to see who else the KC ultimately rounds up for this before we write this off as another 'could have been' FOLLIES. There are an awful lot of exciting women out there who are possibilities for these roles.

All right, Michael Bennett. Very true. You win.
Boyd would be great, hadn't thought of him. Howard McGillin is a tenor so he may not work vocally for Ben, James Naughhton could maybe pull it off but I don't know
of course, there is also Victor Garber...
Victor Garber was a divine Ben.

Victor Garber was a divine Ben.
Respectfully and EMPHATICALLY disagree.
Victor Garber's Ben was about as exciting as a piece of wood.
I happen to enjoy wood, thanks. And I'm sure a lot of other people on this board do as well.
I do happen to prefer the role of Buddy, so that may affect my opinion on who is playing Ben.
Loved Garber in the role, I'm right there with you givesmevoice re Garber AND wood
Would love to see him reprise the role though it's very doubtful he will.
Someone on ATC seems to be insinuating that Ron Raines will be Ben.

*major yawn* Didn't he play it YEARS ago?

This is a totally out there suggestion, but what about Allison Janney?
She's definitely tall and elegant. I happen to think she's gorgeous, but I'm perfectly aware that others disagree. It would be a lot of singing for her, I realize, but is Kim Cattrall particularly known as being a singer?
Janney could actually be an inspired choice. Phyllis' two songs are pretty easy to sing.
LOL I just got a visual in my head of Janney and Peters together. Six foot Janney, and five foot, two Peters. I know Phyllis should be taller but they would almost look like different species. LOL
Janney's singing was so weak in 9 To 5, I don't think she can sing Phyllis.
I'd love to see Peters reteamed with Joanna Gleason as Phyllis.
And no, we don't really have any idea what kind of voice Kim Catall has. If she really had a voice, Catrall would actually have perhaps been an even better fit as Carlotta (B list film actress turned into aging television actress).
Having recently seen Cattrall onstage in Private Lives I can attest that she looks nowhere near her age. If not too young she's too young-looking for Carlotta.
Well if Catrall is too young looking for Carlotta, she's too young looking for Phyllis as well, as the characters are supposed to be roughly the same age.
Yvonne De Carlo was actually a year or two younger than Alexis Smith

Sigourney Weaver should be Phyllis. She sings.

That goes back to Michael Bennett's comment about this being a reunion of showgirls. The Rockettes, for example, are all between 5'6' and 5'10' or so. Obviously it's not necessary, but it'd be ideal if you had a group of women who could have conceivably been showgirls together. Janney and Peters probably wouldn't have been in a kick line together. Or at least not standing near the same part of the line.
I know it goes completely against type, but I wonder if Jane Lynch could play Phyllis. She's the right age, she can sing, she has the stature. Again, I admit she wouldn't be the typical Phyllis, and this is the ranting of a big fan who'd love to see her onstage.
^ I don't think she's attractive enough. Phyllis has to be beautiful and queen-like.

I wouldn't buy Jane Lynch as Phyllis for a hot second.
