So much for Zac!
Full Story
Didn't Zac not want to be known as "that musical guy" or something? lol.
Chace Crawford is awfully pretty. I hope he can (kind of) sing.
Yay! Chace is a way more exciting casting choice than Zac. The rumors were nice. I'm glad it's finally official.

I have no idea who he is, but he looks a bit like Zac Efron. Maybe they're hoping no one will notice the difference?
Ok, I am still very upset about Zac, but this is helping me to get over it!
Sounds like stunt casting to me.
The Gossip Girl?! Really?
I hope he has more acting and singing chops than just that piece of ****e.
This is sad, i was hoping Derek would get it, he was amazing in the role when he was in the West End Production and tour of Footloose

Derrick who? They clearly want a Hollywood name for it to help sell tickets.
Derek Hough from Dancing With the Stars. He played Ren in the UK. He does have a bit of a name in LA now, but not a box office name. Derek would have been a good choice, if not a tiny bit too old at this point.
Yeah maybe he would be a bit too old, i keep forgetting you can play a 17 year old when your in your early 30s on stage but on film the close ups can be harsh lol
He was just so good though, he really made Footloose in the UK
I'd like to see what he actually looks like right now. I haven't seen him without the fake bronzer in ages. I think the bronzer on the show makes him look older.
i think he had that bloody bronzer on during the Footloose run, i know he was very tanned lol
I just have my fingers crossed that Julianne Hough still has a shot at the female lead. She's great on Dancing With the Stars, but she's way too talented to be stuck on that show forever.
I second Julianne Hough for the female lead, this would be so great for her and she's so talented. Ahhh! one can only hope!
I adore Chase and I'm soooo looking forward to this !!!! And emcee baby, why worry about his singing ??? If this is a remake of the original movie, he doesn't have to !
Correct...all original reports is that this is a remake of the MOVIE not a filming of the B'way show.
You are wrong (ish)
whilst the new version is not based on the musical its also not just a straight remake of the original film. Some reports are saying that the new songs written will be performed rather than (like the original) be played on a radio in the background or used to dance to.
When I saw "The Haunting of Molly Hartley" I thought that he WAS Zac Efron, so I'm sure many others will too!
Also, since Kevin Bacon is play Rev. Shaw perhaps they will get SJP (if she would actually do this) to play Vi.
If not I'm sure the original Ariel Lori Singer has some openings in her Schedule to do the part!

"Also, since Kevin Bacon is play Rev. Shaw"
Is that something confirmed?
Yes it is.
Yahoo posted it yesterday.
I still don't see the point of remaking it. I don't think it will fare any better.
I heard rumors on my radio show this morning that Miley Cyrus is being considered for Ariel. I'd boycott it.
I'm so sorry!
I missread Yahoo!
They put a picture of Kevin Bacon and I just assumed that he was going to be playing the role of Rev. Shaw, but they were talking about Chance Crawford playing his role.
Still, that could be cool casting if he did do that.
Jeremy Kushnier should play Shaw.
