Posted: 11/30/06 at 11:06pmI saw ACL yesterday and I must say that Charlotte is an excellent dancer, but she cannot sing for ****. Anyone else with me on this? If not? Why?

Well, I have no idea how Charlotte D'Amboise was in the new Chorus Line.
I didn't see her in that.
I did, however, see her do the "Tick Tock" number in the Roundabout "Company."
And frankly, she killed.
I'm just saying.

Posted: 12/1/06 at 3:13amI, among many other people I know who have seen the show, think she is a wonderful Cassie. She is an amazing dancer, actress, and I really like her voice too. So... yea, just to weigh in.

Posted: 12/1/06 at 8:04amYes singing is her weakest of the tripe threat criteria, but I still think that she is just so wonderful. We dont have many other real triple threats left on broadway who can really really dance.

Charlotte is AMAZING!!! A true triple threat- which there are not many of these days. Some may not like her voice, but that is subjective. She has an accent that comes through sometimes. If she truly "couldn't sing for ****" she wouldn't (still) be up there. The night I saw the show, October 26th, she got the biggest applause of anyone at the end when she came on during ONE.
Her Roxie was the best I have ever seen, her Charity was far supierior to Applegate's IMO. She danced her tail off in CONTACT. I'd LOVE to see her perform the whole show PETER PAN - she did I'M FLYING in JEROME ROBBIN'S BROADWAY and it was GREAT!
I have met her twice and she was very sweet. She appologized for having a Ricola in her mouth after the show? Come on, Charlotte, it's OK
You deserve it! It's not easy being the Lady In Red
And she also deserves this shot to shine as Cassie. She is fabulous in the role and has worked hard for many years...
I hope her father is doing as well as can be expected.

The best triple threat singer I think is McKechnie, and she originated Cassie. So it would be hard for any triple threats of today to compare to her.
It's funny though, in a role that doesn't call for stellar singing, like Charity. Charlotte sounded FANTASTIC. Especially opposed to Applegate's weak singing. But her weak singing worked for the role.

Posted: 12/1/06 at 10:21amI was pleasantly surprised by Charlotte's performance when I saw the show last week. She is by no means a horrible singer (I've heard much worse), but her acting and dancing were wonderful.

ljay---I think that's it.
Cassie's song was written for a singer, and it's pretty obvious when anyone with less of a range or belting ability than McKechnie tries to tackle it.
Charity has a more comfortable range, and is more of a "character" role. That allows for a lot of slack in the vocal department (if needed). It's more important for Charity to be a charming (and damn good) actress and a killer dancer than it is for her to be able to warble like a nightingale.

Posted: 12/1/06 at 10:52ami agree. her dancing is FABULOUS, as is her acting for the most part. her singing wasn't bad (come on, she's on broadway for god's sake!), but it left a little something to be desired...

Posted: 12/1/06 at 11:00amCharlotte was a far better Charity than Christina Applegate, IMO...and her Cassie was fabulous.

Yep. Dances the role fabulously but can't sing it.
My 2 cents.

Oh... and let's not forget she was part of a piece of Broadway history: the biggest flop/worst show ever: CARRIE
AND she has Terrence Mann for a husband

Yesterday at the dentist's I was skimming through last month's New Yorker and I found an interesting interview with her.
She seems to have a wee bit of a daddy complex, lol.

Posted: 12/1/06 at 1:11pmGod be with Charlotte and her family at this difficult time. My prayers are for Jacques. A fabulous talent and great humanitarian. Who can forget the work he did with the inner city children and bringing dance to the ghettos. A class act. God be with you.

Posted: 12/1/06 at 4:04pmI personally think Charlotte is quite an amazing dancer, and actress. Her singing has a certain style. In The Music and the Mirror, she doesn't sing too purely. Her "All I ever needed" sounds a little like "Awll I evuh needed." Which I think is fine for Cassie. I love her anyway. I hope she feels better about her dad!
#23re: Charlotte D'Amboise
Posted: 12/1/06 at 5:19pmThe night I saw her she could not sing, dance, or act the role adequately. In fact, she was pretty awful in all three respects. I REALLY hope she was having a severely off night...like REALLY off.

I personally liked Charlotte in Chicago when I saw it last summer. She was also very sweet.
