Just in case you forget your list, and get lost, or whatever-you can always duck into the nearest diner or Chinese restaurant and eat for $10 or under. Diners and Chinese also give you lots of food for your money!
Yes, I said lots of food!

In Times Square-
I second the Edison. If you like homemade soup, and blintzes I think they are the best price, value and it is a very NYC experience. I see Broadway Producers, performers and actors there all the time.
The soups:
My favorite is the cabbage. Other people rave about the Matzah Ball. I hate Matzah balls but the soup is outstanding.
They make the best blintzes you will ever have.
A bowl of homemade soup is only $3.75. Nothing is over $10.00 at the Edison. It is my favorite place for soup in the City.
Upper West Side: The Cottage Chinese Restaurant
Dishes all under $11.00 and feed two people.
Comes with free box wine. They want you in and out in less than an hour but it is the best chinese on the UWS that is inexpensive. (Shun Lee is better but it is three times the cost!)
Bleeker:
Cucina Staglione has a price fix dinner special that is hard to beat. Wine, appetizer, entree, dessert and coffee or tea for $11.95 per person. They make great chicken Parm, pasta, grilled salmon and for so little!
Have fun.

Film Center Cafe on 9th and 45th also has a good brunch ... I think its $12.95, and add on $10 if you want unlimited champagne/mimosas.
West Side Chef on W. 57th Street between 8th and 9th Ave is very good inexpensive Chinese food ... and you can bring your own wine.

I recently had to use it because I was meeting a friend who was visiting from out of town. She wanted to meet at a place that was away from Broadway but yet still close to the theatre we were going to later. She didn't want to go to any of the "touristy" places like Planet Hollywood or Hard Rock. Through menu pages I found the Evergreen on 47th and we both found it to be a nice little place. Away from the tourist crowd but not too far away from where we wanted to be.
