I am PRAYING that she performs at least one number from BRING BACK BIRDIE! Hopefully she will sing "A Man Worth Fightin' For," "I Like What I Do," or "Well I'm Not."
Ok, this is a longshot right? What are the odds she will sing something from BBB? Slim to none?
Even if she sings only from the hit shows, I will definitely be there for the first preview. So excited! She truly is a living legend.
Wait: A show with someone who can Sing, Dance, and Act? I'm so confused!
I know right! How does that work again?
I'm not sure. Its been so long since I've seen one...

I am SO excited for this. I saw Chita in Nine and she proved that she still could dance up a storm. However, I always wished I was alive to see her in West Side Story because I can only imagine how amazing she was, and now I can see some of it.
Is she going to tell stories a la Elaine Stritch or just do different dances from her hit shows? She is a great entertainer, as you could tell by her ad lib section in Nine, and I would love to hear her take on working in such legendary shows
I am still upset that they cancelled the pre-Broadway engagement in Denver. But luckily I will be in New York in the fall so I plan to catch it.

I take it it's going to be similar the Stritch's show. She has Terrence McNally writing the "book" of the show, so obviously it'll have a real structure and dramatic arc, probably consisting of her anecdotes about working with Robbins, Kidd, Fosse, Champion et al and then she'll recreate notable numbers from their shows.
There is or was nobody that can dance, sing and act like Chita Rivera. Now and then. I have had the privelege to see many of her performances from Kiss, The Visit to Nine and more recently Feinsteins (and many benefits in between)...The lady can most certainly still sing and dance a storm...During Nine she was surrounded by 10 other gorgeous and talented actresses half her age, (she high-kicked and danced amazingly) and she still managed to still the show and own the stage like only a true star can. At Feinstein's her voice was flawless, full of emotion and that thing that vibtato that only Chita can do ..
She owned every song..And to top it all-she looks amazing!!
The comment about "the poor thing cant move" is almost funny!
A TRUE STAR!! CANT WAIT!!
Chita's first show was 'Call Me Madam'. I wonder if she'll have any Merman or Stritch stories to tell.

Chita Rivera has a quality that has not dimished with age. That energy that allows her to dance without moving a muscle. I cannot wait until November to see this wonderful performer web her special magic on Broadway once again.

It looks like Sebastian on the playbill photo...hopefully!
I would imagine this is a reworking of "Chita & All That Jazz" that I saw in San Francisco in 1997. I know that was originally intended to come to Broadway, but didn't happen. I guess with all of the "Special Events" that have been happening on Broadway recently, producers felt the time was right to try this again. I just hope that McNally and Daniele MAJORLY rework the structure of the piece, because I was very disappointed. It was nice to hear her story and see her perform numbers from the high points in her life, but the piece as a whole just didn't work. Particularly, her West Side Story section was . . . sad. It just didn't make sense when she sang the alto part in "America" and not the melody and to recite Maria's closing monologue as Anita retelling what Maria said . . . WORD FOR WORD. Chita is a MAJOR talent, but that show was not a good vehicle for her.

I'm sure this will be mostly different from CHITA & ATJ. But damn I saw in that production she did CHARITY songs, I really hope she does in this new one as well.
and NYPJ. It looks like Sebastian was in the CHITA & ATJ show, so hopefully she is using the same boys for this one, including Sebastian!

Saw Chita and All That Jazz too. I loved it. She did "How Lucky Can You Get" I think, and I was like, 'Wow'. Then i saw it on the My Favorite Broadway: Love Songs dvd.
I think she's funny too.
Loved seeing her in KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN too.

I saw Chita and All That Jazz in Stamford, CT. This is probably the genesis of the new show but hopefully Terence McNally and Graciela Daniele will make it less of a cabaret/nightclub act and turn it into a real theatrical piece. I would love for Chita to step down from some of the dance numbers and relate stories of past productions. I truly don't think she will be dancing full out on every number. I hope the creators of this show do justice to this talented dynamo.

this new show has nothing to do with Chita @ all That Jazz..
^ I figured that. But it seems she may be using the same boys from CHITA & ATJ.
I am still very excited for this. I hope she does CHARITY numbers.
