I don't know much about their split, except that they were able to keep it relatively low-key and out of the press (for the most part). This is the first time I've heard Borle discuss their time together, and thought it was very sweet.
When asked what his favorite stage performance was ever, he said Sutton in Thoroughly Modern Millie. He mentions how great that time was with her, and how he feels about being a part of that whole experience.

He has given several interviews over the past few months speaking very enderingly (for lack of a better word if that is a word)about her. It almost makes you hope/wonder if they will ever get back together - they were a cute couple.

I had no idea he is straight. I am stunned.

Liza Minelli and Judy Garland married gay men. Sutton Foster did too. It's the curse of the Broadway diva.
I am basing he is straight as he said so in the article. So I am taking the man at his word.
Although you’re straight, you play a lot of gay characters.
[Laughs] I really, really do! Even Black Stache is foppish. I think it’s less a reflection on me and more because lots of gay roles are being written, which is fantastic. I’ve certainly never hesitated to take a gay role. I know people assume I’m gay, but I don’t care. My sexuality is germane only in my personal life.

Liza Minnelli spells her name with a Z, two N's and two L's.
She sings a goddamn song about it.

The least you could do is PAY ATTENTION!
From his days at FOOTLOOSE, he has had quite the reputation as a Ladies Man.

I love Borle but me thinks Bobby C was a BIG step up!

I love germane sexuality!
IT'S NOT SPELLED "GERMANE"--IT"S SPELLED "GERMAN"!
Pay attention, people.
Kept it out of the press? Its not like anyone knew who they were back then. I doubt they'd make much of a splash in the press if it happened now.
But on to other thoughts: How sad that so many are amazed that one would speak kindly of an ex, like it's such a noble act to be "nice".
