ITA, munkustrap.

I can't stop listening to the Off-Bway recording, and I can't get over how well-crafted it is. They put so much effort into the characters and getting the feeling of aristocracy and how the Beales could just go to waste. It's one of the best stories to tell because everyone can relate or even fear what the Beales are living.

I'm happy that a show like Grey Gardens exists this season, and I think it has the best original score I've heard in quite some time. Caroline, or Change was the last score that touched me in the same way.

Get the Broadway CD, VIETgrl. The new songs are fantastic, and I love Erin Davie.

"I honestly believe that people who do not love this show just don't get it."

I completely disagree. And that's odd, because I think we frequently do agree. I went in wanting to like the show, and wanting to like Ebersole. I completely 'got' the show, and saw what they were trying to do, and completely respect the actors and their choices. I just plain didn't like the show, or Ebersole in it.

Yeah, I should get it, but I am disappointed that they took out Toyland, Body Beautiful Beale, Better Fall Out of Love, Being Bouvier, and Tomorrow's Woman from Act I. I know those songs were disposable in terms of cutting Act I, but I really liked those songs. For those of you who have both, do you think the recording is better/worse/more or less the same with these songs replaced/cut?

How is Erin Davie compared to Sara Gittlefinger? I heard people not liking Ms. Gittlefinger on the recording, but I have no complaints about her. I actually quite enjoy her Little Edie.

I know this is blasphemy, but based solely on the recordings and not the performance, I have to say that I was actually the most impressed with Mary Louise Wilson and her interpretation of Big Edie. Christine Ebersole's Little Edie was absolutely fantastic and I do think she should be the favorite for the Tony, but I was blown away by how Wilson came eerily close to the real thing.

Well, I haven't heard the Off-Broadway CD, other than some clips, so I'm not the best person to judge.

From the clips I have heard, I prefer Davie to Gettlefinger. Erin has a lovely voice and her Daddy's Girl is a highlight.

I have both cds, and like the Broadway one better for several reasons. I really like Marry Well and Going Places as the new additions. And The Girl Who Has Everything is a great addition. But the biggest thing for me is Erin. Erin is FABULOUS. I usually love Sarah, but this was not her role. Erin, to me, is perfect in the role.

I honestly hope the producers document the stage version with Christine Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson on film. Regardless of if a film is made of the musical, etc. This is a one of a kind piece of theatre that should be recorded and broadcast on PBS or released on DVD. It cannot fade into history with only photos and CD to document its existence. Should we start a petition?

I think this might be a case where whichever CD you got first you'll prefer, at least in terms of the songs.

My opinion is that the Broadway CD sounds much better, especially songs such as "Another WInter" which were recorded for the Off-Broadway CD and just remixed and remastered for the Broadway edition. It's obvious that more care was taken and more time and money was spent mixing the 2nd version. The sound is richer, especially the low end, and there's a nice tasteful use of reverb.

I would have loved it if for the Broadway CD they could have sprung for a real harpist, guitarist and harmonica player (for that one horrifying synth harmonica solo in "Another Winter"), but it's a miracle that this show was so well recorded and that both versions were documented.

I saw the show this past Saturday and got to sit front row. It was one of the most incredible nights I have ever spent in a theatre. I cannot praise it enough. Christine Ebersole is amazing, stupendous, incredible. To be able to see everything up so close just cut right to my core. I can't wait to go back to NYC so I can see GG again.

I'm back to the city in July and my first priority is seeing GG again. Even though there are lots of new shows I want to see, seeing GG again is the priority. :)

I would like to see this again.

I don't think I'm being hyperbolic when I say that Ebersole's performance is the musical equivalent of Laurette Taylor in THE GLASS MENAGERIE: one for the ages that folks will be talking about for decades to come.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

I agree Borstal. That is why this production needs to be documented so future theatre students and lovers can see it.

I totally thought Christine Ebersole was fantastic. I sat in the second row center and it was one of the most amazing theatrical experiences I've had. Coming in second to seeing Gypsy with Bernadette. But can't stop listening to the off-Broadway cast recording. I love almost all the songs in Act II. I keep wondering if I should get the Broadway Recording. I do also enjoy the two documentary's of the two women, truly fascinating. I want to see this again!

No need to wonder. Get the Broadway recording. There are some great new songs, and it all sounds better.
