Anyone else agrees that "The Girl Who Has Everything" is the best song from this show?
"People have their opinions and that doesn't mean that their opinions are wrong or right. I just take it with a grain of salt because opinions are like as*holes, everyone has one".
-Felicia Finley-
Actually "The Girl..." and "Another Summer..." are both my favorite songs from the show. The rest of the score I find kinda boring, to be honest.

How is "The Girl who Has Everything" the best song in the show?
It's literally 1 minute long and repeats twice in that minute.
Charming, pretty, and appropriate...
but how could it possibly be the best song when there are things like:
The Five-Fifteen Mother Darling Drift Away Daddy's Girl Will You? The Revolutionary Costume for Today The Cake I Had Jerry Likes My Corn Around the World Another Winter in a Summer Town
"If you are going to do something, do it well. And leave something witchy."-Charlie Manson
Munk- I completely agree (wow, that's a rarity ) It's great for its purpose, but I find almost every other song better to listen to.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
Every time I listen to GREY GARDENS' score, I discover something more about the music.
Not only are the lyrics perfect, but the music is flawless - particularly the songs in the first act.
I'm listening to "Drift Away" right now, and it's just brilliant. I swear, it could have been written in the 40's or 50's. It's just so great I can't get over it.

Saw GG last week.. Alone. Still processing. Glad I didn't drag anybody else to see it with me. Too long. Great performance by Christine, but book a bit shallow IMO and songs were just OK.
The Girl who has Everything is a good song, but it's certainly not my favorite. My three picks are Another Winter in a Summer Town, The Revolutionary Costume for Today, and Around the World.
But as for Grey Gardens...one of the best shows I've seen in a while. I had no idea I would like it that much. And Christine Ebersole was incredible. I hope she wins the Tony, I really do. She was so humble and sweet at the stage door too. Anyway, quite a talent, and an amazing show.
My favorites are Another Winter..., Daddy's Girl, and Around the World. They are all so great though.

Munk, I have to ask you, where is your signature from? I don't remember it in the documentary, but I could be wrong.
My favorite songs are "The Five-Fifteen", "The Revolutionary Costume for Today", "Daddy's Girl", and "Jerry Likes My Corn".
And as a guilty pleasure, I love "Hominy Grits".
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
Revolutionary Costume of Today cracked me up. Then I went on to sob during Around the World...but not as much as the gentleman sitting behind me who had to leave his seat. Which only made me whimper more.
'Will You' is my current favorite at the moment. The opening music is so gorgeous and the melody and lyrics so heartbreaking. My current second favorite is 'The House We Live In'-what a triumphant song. I have to admit doing some lunges forward with my arms jutting out in honor of Little Edie when that song is on.
"Dip and glide. Work those thighs, slenderize. Oh my god, where did all my hair go?"
The music and lyrics are genius.
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
There is a lot to discover in this score with repeated listening. The Act 1 songs aren't just imitations of 1940s standards, they grow right out of what the characters are doing and feeling while still evoking that period. This show makes me wish there was a Tony award just for best lyrics, especially considering all the sophmoric, banal lyrics that theatergoers have been subjected to this season.
"My season ended, a long time ago, but no one took the party tent down. The pink paper lanterns still twinkle in place. My brave navy hero, his tender embrace. The saphire ocean, oh how can I face, another winter in a summer town."
!!!
"I have got to have some professional music!" - Big Edie
Amen! The lyrics in this show are beautiful (as it the music.)
One of my favorite scores in a while.

In a sea of revivals, musicals based on B-movies with lyrics like "OMIGOD You GUYS", and other such nonsense, the music and lyrics of Grey Gardens are such a well crafted and wondrous thing.

PS Classics has the original Off-Broadway Grey Gardens CD available for $4.95 (+$3.00 shipping). From all reports this CD is now out of print, they're just selling off the remaining copies. Once these are gone this version might be hard to find, it seems that the Broadway version is slated to become the only available recording of the show.
It's been speculated that this is because the show's creators don't want future productions of GG to think they can pick and choose songs from both versions of the show.

I've been listening to the CD non-stop since I got it. It's one of the few CDs I have weher I don't skip a track. I can't wait to (hopefully) see the show.

I think the best moment of the score is "My season ended a long time ago....." from ANOTHER WINTER IN A SUMMER TOWN. Absolutely wonderful.
Probably my favorite part on the whole cd. The harmony is just unreal.
