I love the new recording!
Her performance was the best thing in the show. Honestly, without her, would it have made the transfer?
It is entertaining but not the greatest thing since sliced bread

Christine has a wonderfully pretty and serene voice. I really would like to see her during my next trip to NYC!
She is one of the SNL success stories

Mr Roxy, you're so bright you should be warearing a lampshade.
Wearing is misspelled.
I suggest you go back to comforting David Wright. He needs it
"McDonald is the only competition at this point and while she brought me to tears, from an acting standpoint, she didn't have that strong of a relationship with the rest of the cast. "
How could she possibly have a relationship with the rest of the cast that compares with Ebersole's? 110 just began previews. Ebersole and this cast have been working together since the off-Broadway production, except for Davie, and she's been in since they opened last year. Ebersole has had much more opportunity to settle into and perfect her role than any of her competitors.
I loved every minute to Ms. Ebersole's performance. I truly hope she gets a Tony nom. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to see her standby, Maureen Moore. I heard she was excellent.
Rath,
Audra is already pretty much there. I thought her chemistry with Steve Kazee was electric.
Reading all these, I'm definitely gonna have to go back and see GG again. Maybe Sunday. AARGH! There are so many I want to see again!! And the decisions!! Moon I know is limited, so I'm inclined to see that first. But who knows what's gonna happen with GG... I've already got a ticket for next Friday to see 110. So much theatre! So little time!! (And money!)
she won the tony lol

I don't actually think Christine got the character at all, and yes, I know that i'm in the huge, vast majority in saying that
Minority. Sorry to correct, but I just think one should be extra careful about making factual errors when they're already being contentious.
Ooops....
You are correct, I meant to say vast 'minority.'
Thank you.

Princeton, I'm not trying to be snippy or rude at all, but I'd be really interested to hear you elaborate on this. I'm definitely not of the same opinion, but I'm just curious.
It's very simple. I'm very aware of who the character in the movie version of GG is. I don't think Christine got that. I think she made things melodramatic and ultimately was a weaker woman than Edie in the movie was.

To clarify, I meant the reporte with the actors in the production. In my opinion, Ebersole acted so natural with Wilson, Davie and the other while in comparison, I didn't feel that McDonald belonged in that family. It just wasn't as cohesive as GG.
Christine's CD with Billy Stritch is divine. Her voice is so smooth and gorgeous. Her melancholy version of "the Lullaby of Broadway" is the best I have ever heard.
I'd love to hear that CD!
Betty, I like your new pic a lot better than the one from "I Love NY"!
I know I'm in the minority, but I'm in the camp that was neither moved by Ms. Ebersole's performance or Grey Gardens for that matter.
I totally respect that camp Dottie. GG doesn't touch everyone.
Thanks BB72. I went in wanting to like it, but I just didn't.

And I went in expecting to be bored, and was moved by it like nothing I have ever seen. Our expectations can be quite wrong.
I saw GG today, it was on TKTs along with everything else but Wicked and Jersey Boys. I agree with many who have praised Ebersole's performance, but I think she's just one aspect of an extremely well crafted and put together piece of theater. The score is brilliant, the entire cast (including the children) deliver rich nuanced performances and book and lyrics are beautifully written. Watching Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson's characters interact was riveting.
I guess my point is that what makes it possible for Ebersole to give her Tony-worthy performance is the great writing and all of the other elements of the show.
Glad you enjoyed the show Tech!
The best $60 I've spent all year. It was like a great big piece of candy that lasted 2 1/2 hours!
