Does the show desperately need money now? First Leslie's return last year, now this.

CJ is great and all, but why else is HAMILTON doing this besides nostalgia?

I wouldn’t be surprised if Seller has approached nearly all the original principals to see if they’d like to return for some period of time.

The show doesn’t NEED money but his casting will generate more press and interest for the show, which is a win for a long runner. CJ will probably generate way less of a bump than LOJ.

CJ gets no shortage of offers so he wouldn’t be doing this (or Hell’s Kitch) if he didn’t want to. He’s also 50 so his window of time to return to the role may be shrinking.

This will also coincide with the midterm election, and we know Hamilton tries to capitalize or get involved with those things.

Maybe he just needs a job and there is nothing wrong with that.  I'm excited that he is coming back.

He was out both times I saw the show within the first eight months of opening. It would be nice to see his performance live, but not sure if I'd do it.

Why wouldn't Hamilton include a beloved original cast member in a limited return likely to juice press and the box office?

I suspect we'll see most of the original cast return to their roles at some point before they age out entirely. No complaints from me if it keeps people employed and brings audiences in.

How is this not a win-win?

Hamilton, which continues to do quite well, gets a boost of attention and presumably higher ticket sales during Jackson’s run. (Not as high as Leslie Odom Jr., I assume, but still higher.)

Jackson presumably gets a nice payday to return to his most beloved role and one he can’t belt out forever.

One thing LOJ’s return established is that Hamilton doesn’t need to get the whole gang back together to get a box office boost.

If you were making enough money but had the chance to make a lot more, wouldn't you?

I imagine original cast members get approached regularly about returning for limited engagements.
