Currently, all shows that are closing on January 3, 2010 are:
Superior Donuts
Groovaloo
Oleanna
Shrek The Musical
The Marvelous Wonderettes
The Toxic Avenger
White Christmas
Wintuk
Which one should I see before they close? I already saw Shrek The Musical and The Toxic Avenger. I thought that both were really good. (but Toxic Avenger > Shrek The Musical) Has anybody seen these shows before? I'm going to see The Marvelous Wonderettes on December 12, 2009. Which is the best?

Posted: 11/29/09 at 2:42pmI've never heard of Groovaloo but since you've already seen Toxic and Shrek, go see White Christmas. I thought Mara Davi and Tony Yazbeck were great and the show is really cute with great choreography and (obviously) a great score.

Out of all of those I am most sad to see Toxic go

Also, add Oleanna to the list.
I really hope the only reason Toxic is closing is to move the 39 Steps to the New World Stages.

I hope the reason why is becuase it's getting a Broadway transfer. (like that'll happen :/ )

Posted: 11/29/09 at 8:57pmI, personally, love Shrek. I have seen it 4 times and think it is a very funny show. I will be seeing it for my 5th time for their last performance.

Honestly? I don't think there is anything on that list warranting a "must see". (Esp sinced you've already seen Toxie.)
For the most part, there are reasons these shows are closing, which mostly have to do with not being good/interesting enough to get audiences in.
Go see a show that's not closing and could use your support!

Posted: 11/30/09 at 3:04pmWell, he tries to, but he never gets anything right. If you have seen, on I believe adamgreer's signature, massofmen said that Hair would close come Labor Day this past year and look at where it is now, still playing on broadway.

i love hyperbole.
when you say i "never get anything right" i guess you are talking about Hair.
Not the other 3 that I said would all close.
And The public needed money (they were about to go bankrupt)so they reviews went crazy and helped them make a bit of a profit.
How is hair (the tony award winning revival) doing at the box office now that the word of mouth has gone around the country compared to the other tony winning musical billy elliot?
Thats right it hit 65% one week. That's a winning formula for a long running show.
Gimme a break.

That may be true, but Ragtime's grosses have yet to crack 500K for any week's worth of performances. Without knowing the show's running costs, I can't say with certainty that it will close in January, but I doubt it will make it to the Tony's.

Posted: 11/30/09 at 3:44pmDoes anybody know's Ragtime's "quota" of money for it to stay open?

massofmen, where is the article that says that Billy Elliot recouped. Not only did Hair become profitable it recouped its losses and then some. This is a good thing considering that there was question as to if the show would open or not due to finding enough backers.
Now, a London revival and a national tour starting next year. Not bad for a show that was supposed to close Labor Day.

I liked Superior Donuts but I must admit I adored the visuals of WINTUK. It is for kids but the spectacle of it was fantastic.
Also, I believe BURN THE FLOOR is a limited run and that is up there on top of my list. I have seen it four times now and I never tire of the dance!!!!
