So I saw on twitter today that ‘Clueless: The Musical’ is expected to have its world premier starting in November, at the Alice Griffin jewel box theater. Casting to be announced soon.. i know Taylor Louderman did the readings for it, any rumor if she’ll continue with it after ‘Mean Girls’ or if they have someone else lined up?
Taylor is signed onto Mean Girls until March 2019, I believe. I think they'll get someone else.
It might be wonderful, but timing wise this feels tired. We've had HEATHERS. We've had MEAN GIRLS. I'd think the (same) audience for a musical of CLUELESS might be a little fatigued.

It's a limited run in a 199-seat house. They don't need a huge audience to sell out the entire run.
It’s not about the theatre selling out, it’s that Heathers is still huge, and Mean Girls just opened. We’ve seen a lot of teen movies as musicals recently and it will be hard for Clueless to set itself apart.
I'm assuming Queen Alice meant about it making it to Bway. (And I thought the same thing.)
QueenAlice is right, but then again, the very fact of Heathers and Mean Girls' cult followings meant that Clueless would follow sooner or later.
For what it's worth, it's my least favorite movie of the three. At least it'll also have an original score. And I'd love to get a similar story out of it, wherein an unknown young lady is cast in the lead role and gives a knockout performance (like Barrett and Taylor in the other two).
The New Group's season seems so random every year, but I kind of dig that...
Also it’s going to be a jukebox musical, so I don’t think anyone is going to hold their breath.
Press Release: "With her singular voice, [Amy Heckerling] gives us a score that reimagines 90s hits into ingenious parodies and yearning monologues for her lovesick characters."
This makes me unreasonably angry. I feel like interesting properties are somehow wasted when they're turned into jukebox musicals. I felt the same way about Priscilla and Cruel Intentions.
Though I must admit, looking back, that I don't remember Clueless as well as other high school comedies. It doesn't stir up any well known quotes along the lines of "F*** me gently with a chain saw" or "stop trying to make Fetch happen!"
Clueless is the best film of the three. I can't wait.

Clueless was by far the most influential movie of its kind and defined the genre. I hope it gets a show that is at least half as good as it deserves.
I hope they go campy and it's a lot of fun. I liked what they did with Jerry Springer, but I almost feel like their shows are too big for the space.

Not necessarily.
I wasn’t around for Heathers.
I did not like Mean Girls.
Grew up with Clueless, so I’m excited for this!

As mentioned it's the movie that defined the genre. It is also almost a quarter of a century old and how many people know the story or the jokes which unlike Mean Girls and Heathers can give it the look of an original work. I only hope the score, lyrics and book weren't too quickly cobbled together..

Would love to see Amanda Jane Cooper, Gina Claire Mason, or Lauren Zakrin in the role of Cher! They would all kill it!
I agree that this should be just fun and campy. It's Clueless, plus it's a jukebox musical of hits from the 90s. Honestly, it sounds like something that should be at the Rockwell in LA, but no matter what, it shouldn't take itself too seriously.
