The 1974 script of the environmental staging (by Hal Prince) of CANDIDE was in a lavish oversized book with many production photos. The author of this new book/libretto is Hugh Wheeler. This is the one to get if you want to try to get laid on this child's birthday. No one will have ever even seen it. If you find it, get the CD of this production to go with it.

Check Amazon and also The Strand Bookstore and Abebooks.com. Its a rarity.

The 'problem' is that you will want to keep it for yourself.

Not sure if it is a coffee table book or not, but I'm really looking forward to Volume 1 of The Untold Stories of Broadway!

There's also one for the Chicago movie and Sweeney Todd movie. Also hadn't seen mentioned one for Hair that was released after the recent revival. Oh, and how could I forget the one for Hey, Mr. Producer! - which has a lot featured from Cameron Macintosh produced shows including Les Miz and Miss Saigon. And if i'm not mistaken Les Miz has a few coffee table books including the recent "From Stage to Screen" as well as the original "The Complete Book And Lyrics". There's also one for the 10th anniversary but not sure if it was am updated version of the original. A lot of these I never knew existed until after discovering Half Price Books so be sure to hit up those stores!

Can anyone confirm whether or not the Hair one has a full script?

The Hair coffee table book does not have s full script, but it does include history, lots of pics, and some lyrics of songs (including cut songs). But the most interesting thing is pages completely dedicated to the characters.

Emma, what exactly is the Untold Stories Of Broadway book? I've never heard of it but the title sounds intriguing.

brettarnett,
It's a 5-part series about the history of all the Broadways theaters written by Jennifer Ashley Tepper. Each chapter focuses on a different theatre. It includes first-hand accounts from actors, directors, ushers, producers, etc... Volume 1 is released on November 12th!

Here's a playbill article for more information:

I wish they would do an updated version of the Tony award book or a Volume 2 as it was bought out as 40th Anniversary of the Tony Awards that was in 1987

There is a really nice one from A Chorus Line. I'm sure you can find is less expensive somewhere, but this will at least show you the cover.
