So excited to see Jennifer Holiday as Shug Avery-October 04-January 08, 2017. I think she will bring yet another version of this character. She has been rehearsing in NY and will be very ready to make it her own.
Proof?

I understand her performance as Effie is legendary, but things she has done since leave much to be desired. Besides, she's a bit long in the tooth for this role, no? This would be a very strange choice if it turns out to be true.

That doesn't seem like it would be a good fit for this revival.

If you know her personally as you claim, shouldn't you know her last name is Holliday?

I hate to advocate for the OP, but where do they claim to know her personally?
Even googling OP's handle didn't come up with much.

Hello Neon,
Please excuse my typing and your angry attitude. I broke a leg and a hand when in recent auto accident and only now began to type again. I have known Jennifer since 1982 and she was performing at a benefit that I attended on Saturday. This you may all verify-it was for Different Homes in Charlotte NC. Now speaking and catching up with her Manager and with Jennifer-she had mentioned this as her next project. She had been in NYC in rehearsal. We will look for the announcement together in the future. Though I may agree it may not be necessarily right in this production. How can you look in the face of a performer who wants to continue to work and is very talented and say I don't think this is right for you. Jennifer has been through some very difficult struggles, not at her own doing. I applaud any one that picks themselves up and moves on through adversity. Honestly I do not care what or how the information is received on this chat area. I sincerely though it was a place of non-judgments and a place to share interesting Broadway information. If this warrants mean and sarcastic responses, I want no further part of it. Thank you and enjoy your own personality Snarky Neonlightsxo.
Are you sure she wanted you to tell the world?

In addition my handle does not relate to my name through google. I do not answer to a chat boards-just thought I would share. I do not have to claim or have the need to "know" someone. Just thought it would be fun to share. Obviously just a bunch of bitter people here. Warmest regards for your warm reception indeed.

We're not being bitter. I'm just not sure your friend Jennifer is supposed to be telling people, especially if you're going to go online and share information on a chat board.

If you could dial down the defensiveness for just a second you can probably relate to why some people would question such a highly specific assertion of casting that as you note, may not be right for this show. Skepticism does not equal bitter.

Actually her road manager just announced it Lizzy Curry on Facebook. I would not repeat information that was not common knowledge in this business. I thought it would be of interest on this message board-obviously I am in over my head with sharks and can not be part of this. Thought it would be fun-I was wrong.

This would be a god damn train wreck and I'd love to witness it.
Man she would not be a good fit for this revival.
The only part of this I believe is that Headley is leaving Oct. 2nd. They just sent out a discount code for the show featuring the three leads that expired Oct. 2nd.

Glad I'm going over Labor Day then! People keep saying this show's only a must-see with its current cast, so I would be terribly upset to find out any of them are leaving before I could see it. I don't have too much knowledge of Holliday, so I'll take everyone's word for it that she wouldn't fit the production. Does this mean TCP's numbers might go down starting in October then?
