Colton Ryan to Play Evan in DEH Toronto?

Seems weird he would be performing at the launch considering he hasn't been with the show for about a year at this point. From what I heard they were going for an all Canadian cast, but I guess not. Either way, he will be great but it would have been nice to see another star rise a la Platt.

I definitely think it’s him. Is Girl from the North Country still transferring? If so, I guess his role will be recast. Shame, as I loved him in the show, but he’s also a great Evan!

As of a couple weeks ago they were still looking/auditioning for an Evan.  So maybe they can't find a Canadian.  Worth noting that this launch event was a few weeks ago too.

That performance doesn't necessarily mean he'd be doing the Toronto production -- he could be, but they might have just needed someone who could sing it well.

From another thread: Matt Doyle sang from Something Rotten at a launch event in Chicago but wasn't in the tour, and Tally Sessions & Nick Adams recently sang from Falsettos.

Yes but Colton played Evan was heavily involved with DEH in the past, why dig him up after there seemingly being no association between them since he's left the show.

Perhaps they didn’t want pull any of the Evans/covers from broadway or the tour do the event? If it was a month ago, then Ben Levi Ross and Stephen Christopher Anthony were busy rehearsing for the tour. And from the broadway production, Michael Lee Brown seems like a busy guy outside of the show putting out his own music and what not and Taylor Trensch probably prefers to be on voice rest when he’s not performing.

He isn't going to be playing Evan, they needed someone on short notice who could sing the score well so they called Colton. Really not much to it.

Like I stated in my post above, this thing was on short notice, they thought they would have an Evan by now but the audition process is taking a little longer. Everyone else is busy and they needed someone free who has played Evan , (Colton)

Colton will not be playing Evan in Toronto. DEH just put out a casting call for the role of Evan.

I mean, he could be. Weird provided there was a casting call for Evan this past Sunday (Nov. 11th) for Toronto. Would hope for a Canadian, though.

To be fair, Annaleigh Ashford sang from Legally Blonde, promoting the show in Seattle. She was in the show, and cover Elle.

I think Colton was set to play Evan, but Girl from the north county is probably transferring which means he might wanna go to broadway with that instead, so now they are doing another casting call, idk just a thought

He wasn’t going to be Evan in Toronto. They had a casting call for Evan 2 or 3 months ago, and just did another round of auditions recently.

Colton left DEH pretty abruptly after MLB was promoted to the Evan alternate, so my assumption has always been that Colton's relationship with the show may not be great. I don't think he was ever in talks to play the role in Toronto, and was more likely offered a free trip and a nice stipend for that event.

Yes I've heard they can't find an Evan.  And it's getting pretty late, rehearsals start in January.
