Company or Curtains?

I'm at a total loss and I need some help.
I'm going to NY with my mom in June and am hoping to see 4 or 5 shows. On my list as definites are The Color Purple, Jersey Boys and Xanadu, which I'm praying will have Monday shows in previews so I can see 5 shows. If not, I can only see 4.
So, my last two options are Company and Curtains. Assuming I can only see 4 shows, which one of these two would you choose to fill the last slot and why?
I've heard the OCR of Company and although I didn't like it at first, it's grown on me and I've heard such good things about Raul Esparza that I'd like to see it. On the other hand, everything I've read about Curtains sounds very interesting but I know nothing else about the show, music-wise, besides what I've read.
Thanks for all your help!

I'd say CURTAINS. But it is apples and oranges. I enjoy both fruits, but sometimes I'm in the mood for an apple and sometimes I'm in the mood for an orange.
CURTAINS is a funny musical comedy, has good performances, and is more of a traditional musical.
COMPANY is a drama, has good performances, and is...well, a Sondheim. So there aren't the traditional "musical numbers" but instead the music is very very very very good. I think the score to COMPANY is better than CURTAINS. However, CURTAINS' score is solid and shines on its own, too.
If you can't choose between a comedy or a drama, flip a coin.

Curtains is a universal old fashioned musical comedy for all.
Company is a self-indulgent, experimental musical with mature and not really universal subject matter.
As Hook stated, apples and oranges. It's just a matter of if you want to have fun or see a guy whine about why he doesn't want to get married for 2 hours.

I love Sondheim, and I do love Company, but I am Companied out.
I'd personally give Curtains a try if you know Company.

Wait, you gave 3 definites...so if Xanadu has Monday previews, wouldn't that be 3 total, not 5? If you don't see Xanadu, you list 2 definites...so if you plan on seeing a total of 4-5 shows, don't you have 2-3 slots left? Go see both Company and Curtains then!

millie, I'm going to see Xanadu regardless if they have Monday shows. If they don't have a Monday show, then that only leaves a spot for 1 more show, so I was just trying to assume the worst-case scenario as me only having room for one show.
Unfortunately, I can't skip Jersey Boys or The Color Purple. I've dragged my mom to NYC several times and every time she wants to see these and every time I convince her to see something else, so I promised that this time we would see both of them.
And as cheesy as I'm expecting it to be, I absolutely loved the movie Xanadu and can't wait for the show, so that's a must for me.
Thanks for everyone's input, though. Keep 'em coming.

If you can't both, which would be my recommendation. I vote Curtains, better to laugh than cry.

Posted: 3/17/07 at 12:33pmI just saw Company this past week and it truly was one of the greatest nights I have ever had at the theatre. I knew the OBC inside and out and thought I couldn't really be suprised by this cast. WAS I WRONG, the cast is great and the show itself reminds you of what a true broadway show is about. No flying witches, no chandelier's, its a great book, with great music & lyrics and a story that everyone can relate to. See Company.

Posted: 3/17/07 at 3:24pmNope, haven't seen Grey Gardens yet. I heard one song from it (don't remember what it was) and wasn't impressed, but I know everyone on here has been raving about it. I'll consider it, but I know I'll just confuse myself further by adding shows to the mix. Thanks

I say Company
1.) I just saw Company, and thought it was amazing, so of course I'm going to campaign that you experience this one. It's so much better than the Sweeny revival.
2.) Curtains is in previews and has not been frozen yet. That means that you aren't seeing the finished product. It depends on how extreme of a theatregoer you are. I know that I can't see shows in previews unless I know that I'll be able to see them again after it opens. Just something to chew on.

Posted: 3/18/07 at 10:49amI'm not sure why people think Company is a musical where you must "cry"...I didn't, and the show was much more funnier than I expected. The people at the box office described it as a "musical comedy". While I suspect it's not as "laugh out loud" funny as Curtains, Company is not a dreary, depressing musical. It is a masterpiece! Watch Company; you will not regret it.

Yeah, but the poster is going in June. Surely it will be finished by then.
