Interesting. I wonder if this was always planned or if its because of COVID-19? I'm definitely leaning towards the latter, considering how new the show is to Broadway, and the fact that this announcement comes right after the shutdown extension.

Posted: 5/14/20 at 2:55pmI am sure rights won’t actually be available for some time though. Surely Hadestown will be back on Broadway, even if the tour never gets going. I remember MTI tauted the Miss Saigon and Les Miz rights for like a decade before they were no longer “restricted” (and I think they still are to a degree).

As a few others have stated just because the announcement that they have acquired the rights is made it doesn't mean that they will necessarily be available for a while. What it does do is allow them to start collecting interest from companies, building a wait list, and deciding how the rights will eventually be rolled out (restricted to certain levels, only allowing educational programs to license it, etc)

Lol....it took me me a minute.
While I doubt the decision to disclose who "acquired" the rights has little to do with a closing date - I do wonder (esp with the announcement of Frozen) how many shows will simply choose to close up shop.
