I cant believe all of this b.s. The administration as a whole needs to be bitch-slapped. I am just waiting out time until 2008. I am so sick of seeing all these problems when NOTHING is being done to help. Bush can talk all he wants, and fly over the area all he wants, it won't do a damned thing. These people dont need words of wisdom from Dubya, they need air, clean water, nothing that the US cant provide if everyone got off there asses and helped. Starting with Mr. Bush

Amen... I love that Bush is flying overhead. Wasting fuel. I have seen more than enough on television. I have friends that lost homes. Luckily, they have family and friends they have gotten to. He doesn't need to see it from up above. They should drop his ass off and make him live in the middle of that hell. And isn't it funny how we can drop food and water over Baghdad but not in Louisana?

An MS-NBC news report just said that many parts may not be inhabitable for a decade. Horrifying.

I feel so f-in proud to be an american right now...sarcam

seriously... Its totally understandable that they have problems with looting, rioting, etc. These people are desperate. They have NOTHING. When people are in such a desperate situation things like this are bound to happen. And ill betcha that the U.S. prosecutes some of those people for their "criminal act"

"Let them eat cake"
Brilliant illustration GG...

When my boss is on vacation and something goes wrong, he comes back in to help fix it. He has an important job.
You cannot tell me that she couldnt be doing alot to help this situation...the "that's not my table" argument doesnt fly with me. If she cares, she should show it! She has enough shoes...

I have a cell phone conversation in my mind...
"Whatcha doin Condi?"
"Nothin' Mr. President...just got out of Spamalot, it was pretty funny...wanna catch a movie tomorrow? Oh, that's right...you have to go on that helicopter ride...lemme know how it goes!"

Since guillotines are not available, we must wait until 2008. By then, alas, people will forget all about this.

As I understand it, Rice was approached by a woman while she was shopping at Ferragamo's who told her she should be ashamed to be seen shoe shopping while people were dying in New Orleans. Rice had the woman PHYSICALLY removed from the store by her Secret Service bodyguards. That's who she is.

You can't expect her to being working over this problem 24/7. I mean she (and bush) are human and are allowed some recreation time. I Mean the next thing ya know, they're going to be photographed eating out at some restuarant and people are goign to be yelling that they shouldn't be eating either! I mean c'mon, let her enjoy her few hours off. I Just dont think its as big of a deal as people are making it out to be.

^ I agree.

Honestly, some of the libs on this board never fail to make me laugh.

I don't agree with some things Bush does, but honestly - people here take it to the extreme.

Of course everyone should have time off...BUT...
This is not the time...that is what has people angry.

In a crisis like this, I believe that the president and his staff should be working if they are not sleeping. Vacations should be cut short, everyone get back to work...period...

ljay, I would feel the same if Clinton and his staff acted this way, but glad to make you laugh.

Death threats?

The guillotine statement was referring to the "Let them eat cake" line at the top of my post. It was not to be taken seriously. Talk about going to extremes.

This is not the time to be taking time off. Bush should have gone back to the White House on Sunday. Rice Should have been in Washington on Sunday. What happened? While New Orleans was being destroyed, Bush was golfing, and Rice was catching a show on Broadway. This is unacceptable. He's been on vacation for a MONTH!!! He has NO EXCUSE for not acting sooner. Also, we are at war. IF they wanted vacation, then perhaps they shouldn't have launched a war on flase grounds.

that is uncalled for...but you posted that to this thread...so I assumed you meant the "libs" posting here. Noone threatened the president here.

First of all, while I am saddened at the fact that there are so many dead, dying, hungry, and terminally ill people in New Orleans, I am getting so sick and tired of everyone blaming our government for "not helping sooner". What people don't realize is that the U.S. has NEVER had a natural disaster of this magnitude before. An evacuation of this size takes time and effort to organize. I'm sure that President Bush was not out playing golf or catching a movie as Katrina approached New Orleans. I am sure that he was already contacting those who would organize relief efforts.
As for Condi Rice, give the woman a break. I find it hard to believe that she even had to pay for the tickets herself(though she can certainly afford it). To those who said they saw her and got an autograph I say, "What are YOU doing paying $100 for a show ticket when there are people dying in New Orleans? What are YOU doing shopping for shoes?" And to all who are here on this thread who says that "Americans need to get off their asses and start helping." Isn't that exactly what you are doing? Sitting on your ass in front of the computer? I may live in a little hick town in KY, but I personally witnessed students walking through stands at a high school football game, passing a helmet which read "Hurricane Katrina Relief", collecting money, while another group of students stood in front of the school, loading a semi truck with supplies, toiletries, and food to be flown to the gulf coast this weekend.
I'm not going to say anything else without knowing any facts. I am going to enjoy my holiday weekend, and will return to work on Tuesday where are class of 20 second-graders will be bringing money, as they have all week, to help those on the Gulf Coast.

I find it strange that people on these boards who don't think an actor should be allowed a private life and should be 'on' all the time and available to 'work' the crowd are the same people who want us to give condy rice a break. Give ME a break. In EVERY other instance where our country has needed to mobilize, our officials have understood the meaning of the word 'priority'. In this instance, in spite DAYS of notice in advance of the storm, Bush did not come back to Washington to plan nor did he send in troops to position them. We can send boats, supplies and helicopters to Bangladesh faster than we can send them to Louisiana? I doubt it. If you have any question as to whether Rice could have been any help, consider this: Her job as secretary of state includes taking the calls from the people from other countries and coordinating offers of aid (which WERE coming in all the while the journalists were flogging the other nations for not offering) but unfortunately, Condy was frolicking in NYC, buying shoes and attending fun musicals. TODAY she got around to telling us about all the offers of aid. But, her misconduct in NYC (in bad taste, if nothing else, given the state of our nation right now) is nothing compared to Bush's flight of the bumble bee around the states that were affected, glad handing victims with cameras clicking away.

IF he had approved the funding requested by the Army Corps of Engineers in his first term, Louisiana would not be under water now. IF he had addressed global warming we would be on our way toward resolving issues like the increased temps in the Gulf of Mexico that are causing all of these HUGE storms in the first place. But he and his lackluster administration are too busy picking guitar with country singers and hanging out with Broadway stars at popular shows.

It's sad and angers me greatly. But you know what angers me MORE? The fact that there are still people in this country who are willing to forgive and excuse the morons in this administraiton. We deserve what we have because we are apparently as stupid as they are!

Rice had the woman PHYSICALLY removed from the store by her Secret Service bodyguards. That's who she is.

Secret Service don't need her to order them to remove the woman, it's their job to remove individuals they perceive as hostile. A woman approaching then verbally attacking the secretary of state is definitely going to be removed as a security threat. It's not about who Condoleezza Rice is, it's about what she is.

Oh, and I want to know about this woman. She was shopping at Ferragamos as well during this time of crisis, why should she attack someone else for doing the same? Apparently the new fall bag was more important to her as well than the dying and homeless in New Orleans. A thousand dollars could buy a lot of those people food and water. I think both of them were being incredibly selfish, but this woman is also a hypocrite.

Was anyone else at Spelling Bee today when Logan alluded to this during the snack break? I'd never seen the show before so I don't know what she usually says, but she got a round of applause from the audience for mentioning it...

"I am getting so sick and tired of everyone blaming our government for "not helping sooner". What people don't realize is that the U.S. has NEVER had a natural disaster of this magnitude before. An evacuation of this size takes time and effort to organize."

Well we SHOULD be prepared for a catastrophic terror attack. Clearly, we are not. If we were, we could have applied those procedures to this.

I know I am one of those EVIL LIBERALS, but politicians shouldn't be golfing, seeing Broadway shows, and shoe shopping.

And "She had tickets" is the stupidest thing on the planet. Sorry, can't stop for the worst natural disaster to hit the US--got tickets! She can get tickets for any performance of any show she wants. This could have been rescheduled.

The government state and federal on up to the President (The buck stops here!) failed NOLA. Plain and simple. No way around it. To spin it is to **** in the faces of all who have suffered or died.

Not to mention that right after the tsunami, an event which occurred with basically no prior warning, the victims had food and water within 48 hours. Not to mention that Katrina was a category 5 by Friday, giving the president ample time to cut his FIVE WEEK vacation short and fly back to Washington in time to settle on an emergency plan of action. Not to mention that members of the National Guard in Louisiana were prepared to act on the president's orders...orders which never came. Not to mention that higher-ups in Louisiana mentioned THIRTY YEARS AGO that the levees were not strong enough to sustain a category 4 or 5 hurricane. Not to mention that in 2000, an article submitted to the federal politicans spoke extensively of the three most-likely catastrophic events that could potentially cripple the United States, one being a category 4 or 5 hurricane in New Orleans and one being a terrorist attack on NYC. Not to mention that when Bush started this whole Homeland Security section of the cabinet, the mission statement said that it would be responsible for all situations deemed a catastrophe.

Also not to mention that on Thursday, three days after Katrina hit, 95% of the United States federal officials were still on vacation.

I'm chuckling a bit at people bringing up that "Spamalot" is difficult to get tickets to. Please. Condoleezza Rice is the third highest ranking official in the United States. She can get tickets to anything she wants to at the drop of a hat. To all of those who think that everyone is entitled to a vacation, I point you in the direction of the below-poverty-level citizens of New Orleans and Biloxi who could never afford a vacation. In fact, most of them couldn't afford enough gas to get them out of harm's way because our current administration is run by a bunch of jerk-offs.

I hear that Condi was booed when the curtain went down at the end of the show and it's easy to see why. I would have spit in her face if the given the opportunity to. How someone as high up as her has the gall to gallavant around NYC three days after the biggest disaster in world history is beyond me. Why was she not in Washington? Was was she not surveying the damage firsthand in Mississippi and Louisiana?

For all this money we put into being able to quickly respond to a terrorist attack (you know, that war over in Iraq that's costing is $.5 billion a DAY), I think it's been adequately proven that Bush isn't ready for any kind of disaster.

It is very bad timing and very disrespectful. She is an employee of the American people. I don't care what her job description is, she is one of the highest officials in the US and if nothing else, as a black woman, she should have at least offered her services and not spent the evening watching Monty Python antics. She is on call 24/7.
