Could 'The Visit' be making it to Broadway in 2015?

What I've heard over the past few weeks is basically what was said in the Arielle article: the producers have basically found a way to make the show happen. That much is settled and done. It's down to finding a theater and it's been narrowed down to a very small number. I was told the goal is short run, perhaps just the late spring and summer months, maybe shorter. Much of the WTF cast is hoping to transfer with it, especially since it's a smaller cast.
Basically, it's Chita Rivera's last hurrah. She knows what she's capable of at this point and this is what she would love to go out with. And seriously. It's Chita. How do you even argue that?

Posted: 12/9/14 at 9:52pm^We already know Judy Kuhn won't be doing it since she's got Fun Home in the spring!

Posted: 12/9/14 at 9:55pm^ Yup. And Alma Cuervo is the perfect replacement for her. Jason Danieley is lucky to have this show, now that Can-Can is dead.

Posted: 12/9/14 at 10:11pmI was just posting as well that Alma Cuervo would be a perfect replacement for Judy and yes Jason is lucky he has another job back to The Visit.

Posted: 12/9/14 at 10:15pmGlad you agree. Kuhn was great but underused in the role. Cuervo is such a perfect fit for it. She did great work with Doyle in Road Show.

Posted: 12/9/14 at 11:26pmI'm torn. I really want this to happen, but at the same time I don't want You Can't Take It With You to close. As for the Jacob, isn't It's Only a Play planning on bringing Nathan Lane back on March 29th? I may have missed the announcement, but what's going in after Love Letters closes?

Posted: 12/10/14 at 1:58amI'm really excited about this transfer, because it represents what I love most about broadway. A genuine Broadway veteran headlining a new show written by classic Broadway composers with the sole purpose of presenting art, rather than shameless commercial purposes. I hope that they can find an audience for this show, and I hope there is a cast recording!

Did you see the Riedel article that was posted yesterday? It's coming, they're just waiting for the call on which theater. They are doing a photo shoot on Dec 19, and will begin some press from there.

"When “The Visit” premiered in 2001 at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre, Kirdahy didn’t think it was dark enough. “It needed less razzle-dazzle and more of a creepy, Felliniesque world,” he says."
Right. If there's one way to describe the Goodman's The Visit it would be razzle dazzle.

Posted: 12/10/14 at 5:44pmWell as one can imagine, Doyle's bleak production is far from razzle dazzle. It's a very gritty and dark production. I cannot wait to see it again.

Right. If there's one way to describe the Goodman's The Visit it would be razzle dazzle.
It certainly wasn't razzle-dazzle, but it didn't appear as bleak as the new production. I actually liked the surreal sets of the Goodman production, but they did lighten the atmosphere of the material. The show leaned more toward the comedic absurd value of the text on the whole rather than the grimness of the central plot point.
Coincidentally, there was a premiere of a new musical adaptation of the same play in Vienna, Der Besuch Der Alten Dame. The material has a more modern "Euro" feel, but it looks fascinating. I actually enjoy the recording. Link has a promo video.

Posted: 12/12/14 at 1:08pmThe only Shubert theatre available in the spring is the Longacre, unless something suddenly closes. The Helen Hayes isn't a Shubert theatre right?

AS of today yes the Longacre but heard that the set Shubert house should be announced any day now per an industry friend.
The Hayes is not a Shubert house.
***I guess that leaves either Monday's 4/13 or 4/20 for The Visit's Opening probably the later.

Assuming The Visit takes the Longacre, what would be a good guess as to when it would start previews? I will be in New York through March 28 .... cuttin' it pretty close!
