Why in heaven's name would they try to make All My Sons look like a comedy?
Worse yet, could van Hove be staging it as a comedy?

How do you get "comedy" from that ad??

I don't see "comedy", either.

Marianne Jean-Baptiste is the part that would excite me. She deserves more than an "et al" credit.

I agree that the ad is hilariously misleading. The play is a tragedy, not a quirky family comedy. But it’s Ivo van Hove, so who knows…

For starters, Cranston's twinkling eyes and amused smirk and Jean-Baptiste's contented smile. Does anything read as tragedy to you?

If someone has not taken a hit out on me here by then (kidding, I hope) I'll report back - I agree that there IS something a bit comedy vibes about the art but I highly doubt the actual production is. It's just they probably want it to appeal to a wide audience for sales purposes. The colour tone, angles etc.. also has SOME hint of darkness but the style is a bit too much "love actually".

The TImes review (4/5 stars)
"The American star is on strong form in Ivo Van Hove’s full-blooded version but it’s Paapa Essiedu who steals the show."
The Guardian review (5/5 stars)
"Bryan Cranston, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Paapa Essiedu and Hayley Squires achieve theatrical alchemy in Ivo van Hove’s superb production.... Every scene is strong, no actor stealing the show, each raising the power of the ensemble as a whole. There is so much alchemy here – it just dazzles and dazzles."

Stunning in every way. I would expect a broadway transfer and awards.

I don't even like All My Sons and these reviews are sending me to London in January. I mean, there are a bunch of other things I'm going to go see too, but All My Sons was not on the list until today.

As talented as he is, Cranston is miscast as Joe.

Really enjoyed its production. Excellent deeply emotional cast. Had a front row seat and saw tears streaming down faces at multiple points.
Pretty much what you would expect in terms of van Hove production and stage design.

I found the show far more interesting than this trailer would suggest, but maybe others will think better of the video.
