re: Creel Joins and Espinosa Leaves Cast of Broadway Bound HAIR

Yes Marc, the producers are thanking God that Groff didn't join the production ! Gavin's name will PACK the house every night LOL

Honestly, do you actually believe that the producers CARE about anything else than money ??? They wanted a talented, well-known in Broadway, but unknown to the outside world star(Groff) and they got a VERY talented well-known in Broadway, but even more unknown to the outside world star(Creel)
I love both of them, well, I love Groff more, and I wish the show all the best, but I am not optimistic about its success !

FYI... I like Groff but during last summer.. he is cracking a lot while singing..missing notes specially The Flesh Failures/Finale song.. Oh it was painful! I am sure Creel would do if not a better job than Groff~vocally!

I never heard him miss a note.

I adore them both.

Oh, I'm not doubting you....I'm just saying it wasn't all the time.

And...anyway to "test" that proof?

How can you be "betting HAIR as BEST MUSICAL REVIVAL!" when you have yet to see all the revivals eligible this season as they have yet to open?
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Because he saw it and loves it. He HOPES it wins because of his affection for it. Sheesh.

Having seen the production in the Delacorte (and having thoroughly enjoyed it,) I would hold off on any "bets" just yet.

Some of the recasting in the works, including what has already been announced, should significantly change the dynamic on stage.

We'll see if it is for the better.

I too am curious why Eden turned down the role.

But I love me some Gavin!
I want to apologize for some offensive messages posted on this board under my name. The night 0f 12-15-08 I did not have internet access, and someone had used my name to post something offensive. My avatar was also changed. I dont' know what else was posted, or if anyone recieved bad PMs, but I want to apologize for that. I've changed my password, and even though I was not the one posting these messages it still needed to be corrected.

It's ALL about $, which is Ironic cause HAIR is so anti-establishment.
Groff did not transfer because everyone was reportedly offered Broadway scale (which is wierd because he is working Off-Broadway, but I agree he deserves more since he is coming off a TONY nominated performance and Claude is a Lead role)
If they offered Eden scale, she too must have better offers and it's a bad precedent because other producers will expect her to work for cheap.
Perhaps Gavin saved his POPPINS "pounds" and can afford to work for whatever they offered him.
It's all crazy.
They are lucky to have Creel, and hopefully this is a chance for a wonderfully talented singer/actress to get a shot at this role and exposure.

re: Creel Joins and Espinosa Leaves Cast of Broadway Bound HAIR

Espinosa has a history of turning down roles for financial reasons.

She turned down the opportunity to play Fantine in the LES MIS revival in favor of a bigger paycheck to reprise the role of Elphaba in the Los Angeles company of WICKED. Similarly, she expressed interest in playing Maureen in the upcoming RENT tour and eventually turned down the offer when the cast (minus Adam and Anthony) were all asked to work for close to scale.

I imagine a similar situation ensued with HAIR (since, as was previously said, monetary reasons have kept Jonathan Groff from moving with the show.)

"Who is the girl that sings AIR..The blonde hair gal.. I hope they did not replace her! She's got a beautiful voice... "

Kacie Sheik (Duncan Sheik's baby sis) and she is very gung-ho for the production.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that money wasn't the only reason why Eden didn't do Fantine on Broadway. I was under the impression that she also wanted to be in a show that gave her more stage time and a bigger role which is why she decided to reprise her role as Elphaba in LA. And, I am sure that doing it in front of your family and friends from back must not be such a bad thing either.

I love everyone's conspiracy theories on here, Ohhhh why did Eden leave??? Who cares, she did, it said personal reasons, let's just go with that.
I also have to say i was not a fan of Eden's until i watched the upcoming DVD release of Rent and was blown away by her Maureen (as i was with all the cat)
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna

So is there any indication or rumors about who will be playing Sheila? Rehearsals start soon so they need to find an actress quickly. I hope they've gotten their financing in order. I'd hate to see Gavin burned again.

I do like the Diana DeGarmo suggestion and I think she'd fit the part if the brief nudity during Act 1 isn't an issue for her.

When you don't have ANY job, nothing wrong with accepting scale. But we also have no way of knowing if that is indeed what has happened. Just like we don't know if Groff turned it down for that reason.
