That article is lies, Eden didn't "with-draw", she never signed on. I'm curious as to if Gavin has even, yet.
His facebook status indicates that even if he hasn't, he intends to.
"Gavin Hussein Creel is just a hairy guy...56 minutes ago"
I'm sure they had a verbal agreement and didn't foresee that it would fall through.
I adore Creel, am happy for him and look forward to seeing him on stage....but doesn't anyone else think he might be too old for the part? He's suppose to be only 18 or 19.
He probably is too old but I don't care, I'm thrilled that he's in this!
Yay Gavin!!
but doesn't anyone else think he might be too old for the part? He's suppose to be only 18 or 19.
That's what I thought when I first read rumor that he was in talks to play Claude, but you know what? He's so damn talented that I don't even care. Even though he has as much right playing a teenager as, say, Matt Cavenaugh, he's a hundred times more talented than Matt and is going to sing and act the hell out of the part.
LOVE IT! LOVE IT!
I really dont care about Eden Espinosa! There you go I said it!

Good for Gavin. I MUCH prefer him over Jonathan Groff. I couldn't figure out why he wasn't cast initially. His version of "Going Down" was truly stellar.

YES. Gavin Creel. Can't wait.
ETA: I, too, love Creel's "Goin' Down" on the Actors' Fund recording, but isn't that a song that Berger sings?
I think you're right, broadwaybaby. Although, I can't wait to hear his rendition of "I Got Life."

Word, Shannon Bo Dannon. Word.
Again, can't wait.
I had ZERO desire to see this until the Creel announcement. Glad something came through for him after the Godspell disappointment. That man needs and deserves his day in the spotlight. Totally on board now. Can't wait to see the rest of the casting.
Do you people really think the producer are going to put "We announced her in the show before she signed the contract" in a press release? "Personal reasons" says it all.
I don't think a recording will depend on Creel singing one song from the show on a benefit recording.

I dont think people would expect the producers to do that, but hey, most people would expect producers to you know...wait until someone actually signed a contract before they factually stated they would be joining a show, so who knows.
Regardless, I think that the announcement of Gavin Creel definitely will give people a little more faith in the show and I think its a great casting choice even if he seems to be slightly too old for the role. I agree with Bobby in saying that I dont think that Creel being on the benefit CD would in any way discourage a cast recording being made. I mean he only sang one song.
Age isn't really a factor as long as the youthfull spirit is there and Creel has that in spades.
Now, there is the nudity question?
I know his character is not required to do it, but maybe we can start a petition.
Eden would have added a lot to this revival, sorry to see she is out.

I was excited to hear that Eden was going to be with the cast. I am not going to lie but I am an Eden fan. I am VERY excited to see Creel in the show.
I do find it sad that the producers weren't smart enough to keep their big mouths shut until the contract was signed.
Also, I remember seeing Creel in Poppins during my vacation in London not that long ago. I waited for him at the stage door and when he came out I told him that not only did like his performance as Burt, but I loved him in Millie. I got the impression from his response that he was VERY happy that there was a New York theatre fan who was seeing him in London. He stood there with me talking shop for a bit. It was fun. He is such a nice guy.
Sorry to threadjack.

Although Gavin is in his early 30s, he expresses a truthful youthful spirit onstage, and should pull it off. Many actors in shows are much older than their characters are, but through their talents and presence, they produce a truthful, honest performance.
Is he getting naked or is he playing Cluade? Who's he playing? Does it say? I didn't see.
He's Claude, Cats.
And it wasn't an actor choice not to get naked...it was a directorial choice. (from my understanding) so.....you'll all have to just imagine!
I would have seen this no matter WHO they cast, but I'm thrilled to see him.
PS...to attest to his "nice guy"-ness.....I directed my HS kids in Millie in the fall. I asked Creel if he would send them a little opening night note for me to read to them. In less then 12 hours he had indeed. It meant the world to them. It was short and sweet....but a lovely gesture.
The Claude character which was played by Groff did not get naked at Central Park last Summer.

How lucky for the producers that they now have an amazing talent in the part of Claude. They must be thanking heaven that Groff didn't join the production.

ksdjfklasdjfkfj GAVIN!!
This very nearly makes it okay with me that Groff didn't transfer Not that I don't still need my Groff fix, but uh.. it's GAVIN CREEL.
*listens to Going Down from the Hair benefit recording in celebration*
Best news all week!
Ummmm....I'm sure the producers would have been terribly happy with Groff.
