Matt Rogers said: "They already did a reproduction of the original in 2009, in the Apollo Theatre production that was supposed to move to Broadway but didn't. The same rights holders are responsible for the stale reproduction of A Chorus Line that landed on Broadway with a thud in 2006. No more museum pieces. Let’s have something original."
It would be one thing if it were the only version of Dreamgirls we'd ever seen, as was the case with A Chorus Line, thus the stale quality. It hasn't been produced often enough in that form for it to be stale, hence the desire to see it again.
