Amber wasn't easy to get along with in the UK? I hadn't heard anything about that...she certainly seemed to sing the songs well in the clips I've seen. I was actually hopeful she'd get the chance to do it in NY.
If they are going with "lesser knowns" I already feel bad for the gal cast as Effie. Pressure will be ENORMOUS.
Count me among those who would enjoy seeing the original choreo and staging. That Steppin' to the Bad Side catwalk was so cool, but it seems to have never returned after the 80s. A shame. That whole number was amazing. I don't like when they lean on a "funk" sound instead, from a music standpoint. The original was so good.

Michaela Jae' Rodriquez was on Kelly & Mark this morning. She mentioned that she heard auditions for "Dreamgirls" were coming up and she put it out there that she would like to audition for Deena.

I would love to see Jeannette Bayardelle in any musicals, including Dreamgirls of course. She has such a amazingly amazing voice

Any predictions on which theater this could land in?

Maleah Joi Moon for Lorrell (or maybe even Deena if they go with a young cast).

Well, that's your opinion.

Due to "professional reasons," LaChanze will no longer be co-producing this revival.

That Instagram message definitely made me side eye the rest of the team, because you just know something went down...

To quote STEEL MAGNOLIAS… “I think there’s a story there”.

Re: LaChanze pulling out
Yeah, there's a story.
As she's a friend of the family, I'm also quite grateful she gave us the heads up early that she wasn't going to end up investing in the show. We were approached as well and were close to pulling the trigger.
And now, we're not.
I don't see this show doing well with the crop of producers they have at the moment. A lot of cooks in this kitchen, all of whom will want to get their way.

Some people might say that to be messy and grab some attention, but not LaChanze- shes proven to be a truly impressive (and beloved) producer, the kind whose stamp of approval really matters, so theres definitely a story there.

HUGE red flag for her to pull out of this production

a loooooot of concerns from people and many producers about Brown as director.

Producers leave shows all the time, and while there’s always a story, losing the fourth-billed co-lead producer shouldn’t have any meaningful impact on the show.
LaChanze is a prolific money-raiser, but she’s not a symbol of quality. Sonia Friedman and Wagner & Johnson are some of the most seasoned and powerful producers we have right now. Yes, there’s a glaring optics matter of losing a Black woman on a show like this, but they will navigate it.

They may be seasoned, but both Friedman and WJP offices are known for having... prickly people at the head of it. LaChanze may have felt disrespected in an all white room and knew better than to put up with it. This industry talks. And it's not about her in this instance.

Understandably.
Still can’t believe she got a choreography nomination for what she did with “Gypsy.” Mess.

Camille Brown will single-handedly kill this show.

How did we pivot from “LaChanze is backing out as a producer” to “Camille A. Brown is the problem”? Some of you really want to hate this woman so badly, it’s kind of disturbing.

I dont doubt that the Dreamgirls team will do fine without LaChanze (or they wont, having nothing to do with her departure). That doesnt mean her departure is telling given her acumen.
And when you say she isnt a symbol of quality, which of the following shows were not better than OK and well received? Kimberly Akimbo, The Outsiders, JaJas African Hair Braiding, Topdog/Underdog?
