terrible, terrible news.

<--- the set of A Midsummer Night's Dream that I was assistant stage manager for during the 2007 season at the STNJ outdoor stage.

-Dre-
You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.
~Dirty Rotten Scoundrels~

There's a special kind of people known as show people. We live in a world full of dreams. Sometimes we're not too certain what's false and what's real. But we're seldom in doubt about what we feel.
~Curtains~

It is a far, far better thing I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest I go to, than I have ever known.

Although it's a shock to hear something like that, I don't think it will happen. I was there last night and it seemed pretty full to me--granted, I didn't get a good look at the orchestra section but the entire front mezzanine was filled, and the right, left, and center sections of the rear mezz had a good amount of people. If I had to put a number on it I'd say about 70% attendance. I'm no expert on the running of theatrical productions, but from putting the pieces together that I've seen (healthy attendance this week, ads specifically saying "Final 16 Performances" and "Must Close September 3rd" rather than "Final Weeks", etc.), I think DRS will keep going until the originally announced date. It's not exactly a huge flop that's standing on such weak legs it can't go one more week as advertised.

I really don't know where they're getting this "terrible sales" B.S....

I mean, the sales have gone down, but I don't think it's ever gone below 60%.

Is it really doing that poorly that the producers want to shut it down this quickly?

Or do they not want to compete with the Sweeney closing next Sunday? Even though the latter has an evening performance as their final?

SDav, unfortunately, I think it's very likely that it will be closing this Sunday re: DRS closing a week early (?)

It must be true or someone would have deleted this thread like they deleted the original announcement of the 9/3 closing.

I haven't gotten an email from telecharge yet saying that the 9/3 performance has been cancelled, but I'll let you know if and when I do.

has it been announced on broadwayworld or playbill yet?
i usually just rely on those 2 sites...
that'd really be a shame for it to close so soon! but i guess they might as well not run the extra week and lose more money...

Aside from not reaching 666 performances, Sept 3 would have marked exactly a year and a half that DRS has been open (opening was March 3, 2005) re: DRS closing a week early (?)

WithoutATrace, though you didn't receive an email, there is an announcement on Broadway.com.

Thanks. I'll stop by the box office today during lunch to pick up my ticket for 9/3 and buy another ticket for 8/27. Hopefully the box office will know the correct information and will mention something when they see I have a ticket for 9/3.

Wow, I stand corrected--such sad news, and I am very surprised because it seemed to be doing fine last night! There goes my hope of seeing it on the 2nd, but I'm lucky I got to see it once anyway.

Farewell, DRS...

that's a good idea
i think telecharge takes a bit to actually inform you that the show you're seeing is closing- when LITTLE WOMEN posted a closing notice, they called my parents like 3 days after they announced the closing to tell us we couldnt see the show...hope that made sense
but anyway, good idea to go get your tickets now
:)

Well on telecharge you can still purchase tickets up until Sep. 3rd, so telecharge must not know yet.
