Whoever said the thing about she can't find anything to do in the greatest city in the world... um she lives there, as she said, and when you live somewhere, IMO at least, it can get boring easily.
I live close enough to NYC that I don't find it THAT awesome. The shows are good and there is stuff to do, but it's not like the place to go to end all boredom and you are always surprised with stuff that is fun, fascinating and interesting! I dunno, I think people really go overboard with how amazing NYC is... I mean I love the place, but I see where this person is coming from personally. ESPECIALLY having seen all the shows out there, it can get boring living there (or near there in my case) just like wherever you live.
I dunno... that's just what I felt I needed to add...
ANYWAY, I have no idea what you should do... sorry.

Posted: 8/16/05 at 5:02pmThere is SO MUCH more to do here other than mainstream broadway musicals. The Sunday New York Times lists TONS of things all the time. It can be dance at the Joyce theatre, or the opera, a museum, a one-act play festival, art films, art galleries, tour of NBC studios, tickets to the filming of a TV show, the Liberty Science Center, The Bronx Zoo, etc. The reason I mentioned the tourist information center is there are lots of things you can browse through there that might give you an idea you hadn't thought of. Sometimes you don't know what you might like until you try something new. Going to ASU again shouldn't be the answer just because you are near the theatre. ESPECIALLY if you live here, you should be able to find new things to do. I'm not trying to say that NYC is the center of the universe, but NO ONE should say they can't find anything to do here.

Posted: 8/16/05 at 5:04pmWhen I lose lotteries, I go to TKTS to see if there is anything up there I want to see. Also, some shows have RUSH policies, so I check those out as well. Otherwise I go home (well, I go to the Virgin Megastore, then I walk home).

Yup it can get boring... ready... here is a list of what you can do.
First off, many many places to eat, only so many you'll really enjoy, and food is food.
Broadway shows- obviously! but as shown by this post, sometimes that can be not so exciting... as well as expensive!
Museums - Got those, but just cuz they are there don't mean you want to or will go, plus I personally think once or twice is enough really. I'm not a fan of just walking around all the museums, although I do think everyone should go into them at least once.
Parks and such, parks are everywhere, and Central Park is nice... and there are other smaller ones around and even the Bronx Zoo, but really, it's not that amazing. I really think being outside whereever you live can be just as fun, if not more fun because of sometimes the lack of crowds and everything.
Times Square and all the stuff to do around there, can get boring and many places where all of you live have the same stuff, it's just not as crowded and in a tight space.
I mean, Manhattan is awesome... for all of you saying NYC, you really mean Manhattan since although there are great places in the other boroughs, Manhattan is the major one that you will be.
But seriously, it's not much different from where any of you live IMO, just busier and everything you can do is close together and there is a lot.
But, really, it's not that it's NYC that makes it fun... it's that those who don't live here love the different life here and the fact that it's new and exciting for the most part. You live here, or go often, it loses that and is just some streets and buildings and people. It's still an amazing place, but can be just as dull as anywhere else.
And personally, I hate all the tourist stuff... especially if you've done it before.
So just an FYI to all of you, it's really where you live is boring because you live there, not because of the place in general (exceptions obvioously). Even one of the more fun and exciting places can be boring if you live there day in and day out or go there very often.
Just my 2 cents...

Plays bore you? What't the matter, attention span not long enough to pay attention without the songs every few minutes? Maybe you should work on that, because there are so many plays that are better than Wicked, and ASU and every other thing you've seen 5 times.
How bout this, READ A BOOK.

I've read 6 books in the past 2 weeks, thank you very much. Would you like me to name them for you ZONEACE?
And yes, plays do not hold my interest. I find that I get bored while watching them, regardless of the storyline. Everyone has different opinions on what they enjoy, you may prefer plays, I don't.

You know, I have read every single post to the very, very painful thread. It is so frustrating to read your responses, Liotte.
Now, let me preface this by saying...I love WICKED and ASU...BUT...they are not the end-all or be-all. All of this time spent in a lottery line could be used to read a 7th book in the 2 week period of which you previously referred, or spend quality time with the five year old outside of the dark, yet magical theatre.
Find a hobby. Or better yet, get a life.

Walk around Williamsburg. They have great restaurants and funky little galleries and shops. I wish I had spent more time there.
Ride the subway lines and see all of the beautiful tile work. See the beavers on Astor Place, or the fort on Wall Street. I'm doing my senior art history seminar on the ceramics of the New York Subway system - it's a fascinating subject.
Or visit Flushing Meadows! Relive the '64/'65 Worlds Fair and try to guess where all the old pavillions used to be. Or maybe I'm the only dork that enjoys doing that...
