Darren Criss To Star In TV Version Of HOW TO SUCCEED

I get why they would choose Darren for this, because as mentioned above - he's a rather large deal right now. However, he was the weakest of the three Finches - his characterization wasn't very well thought out/didn't truly fit how I think the character should be played, his vocals were not on par, and despite his energy, he just didn't do the role justice. However, because he is who he is and he made them boat loads of money, I'm not surprised they'd turn to him for such a project, especially considering from what I understand there was most certainly plans in place for him to return to the Broadway production post-Jonas.

He's a very talented (in other regards) and lovely guy, and I am a fan of his, but in How to Succeed? Not so much. I don't enjoy Finch being a clown, that's Bud's job. Personally? I'd have killed to see him play Frump, because then he could have hammed it up like he was doing nightly and not have it be almost completely out of the realm of the character.

"Lord. Tumblr is going to be unbearable."

Trust me, it already is. His fans are some of the most obnoxious people on the planet, and as a fan of his, it's sometimes hard to want to really support him because they're so insane.

If this happens, they should really get Stephen Colbert as the narrator.

finebydesign- His run sold EXTREMELY WELL, but we have to remember it was also an extremely short run. I doubt those numbers would have been consistent if he had had a decent length run.

Had he been there for awhile - it'd probably have still sold very well, but maybe not nearly as well? It'd be similar to how it was when Billie Joe played St. Jimmy in American Idiot - his brief run sold very well, and while his extended run sold decently, it wasn't close to the brief run.

I know tons of people who made cross country treks to see Darren in the show, and I rushed it while he was in it, and yeah - there was most certainly a demand during his short run.

Yes, I have seen him live in theater, 3 times. He may not have the musical theater voice, but he doesn't need help. I've also seen him live in concert. He's more than fine in his vocal.

It's just a matter of personal taste whether you like his take on Finch. It's just a different Finch, doesn't mean it's the wrong Finch. And I never saw that his Finch was a clown. His was more charming.

As for his fans being obnoxious...well, his fans are not the only group. He also has lots of haters who'd do anything to bash him whenever they can also.

Precisely -- his run wasn't an extended run that suddenly became a short one; it was advertised from the beginning as limited (3 weeks right?) Comparing his stint to the others isn't a fair comparison.

By the way....is there any source for this or just rumor made up by the poster?

I doubt it's true or DC fans would have known about it already. I won't even bother to speculate who's playing what until there's a source about this crazy rumor.

Is there a chance they can make some exceptions to this new version and have J. Pierpont Finch running around the office in various states of undress from time to time. I think H2$ needs some sexiness injected into it.

Pitfever - You're right, it is based on personal taste, but to me - I never imagined Finch in that moment when he's suppose to be trying to save his own ass from being fired with the new information about being among a fellow window washer [in Mr. Womper] that he'd mock his voice and physical characteristics. His mannerisms to me came off clownish and oddly out of character, but I can see his charm - because I have actually broken down how I see each three as being in their own way.

Can they autotune down his Gayness?

Win. And, no - you can't - just like you can't autotune Lea Michele a personality.

Has it been confirmed that there is even going to be a TV remake of the musical, much less who's starring in it?

No, but it wouldn't be entirely surprising if it was to happen. However, given how Fox and Glee put the breaks on the possible Darren/How to Succeed EP back in the day, I'm not so sure I'd be quick to believe they'd allow ABC or any rival network get the chance to use their little money machine.

I hadn't heard anything about the above mentioned squalsh - but I can't imagine they could have exclusive rights over the boy in his free time, non contracted time.

Glee has it's way of getting in the way of it's actor's outside projects. Not too long ago, Matthew Morrison bitched up a storm in the UK about how unhappy he was because the show kept preventing him from doing just about anything on his own - ie: promoting his album the way he wanted, feature films, etc.

In the early days, most of them weren't allowed to sing on anything beyond the show, and originally, there was grumblings of a possible Darren EP [a la the one they did for Nick], but from what I gathered - Glee and Fox prevented it from occurring. Glee's contracts have more clauses in them than Liza has ex-husbands.

Also, they had to release him to do the stint in the show, and I remember that being one of the biggest hitches in the beginning of if it was going to happen, because Ryan Murphy seemed pretty iffy on the idea of losing one of his big money makers for even a brief moment in time. They're greedy sons of bitches, those Glee people.

Here's the article about Matthew Morrison that I mentioned:

Matthew, 33, is still in the musical comedy hit Glee. Much to his own dismay, by the sounds of things.

He says of the E4 show: “It’s not ending any time soon.

“Once they have you, they trap you. I’m tied in to seven years – I signed up to seven years and I cannot get out of it.

“I have a really good lawyer but there’s nothing we can do – I’ve had offers recently for a few really cool movies but had to turn them down. It’s so frustrating.

“None of us realised when we signed up it’d turn into this – we thought it was just a show about kids singing and dancing.

"But I’ve done three years now, so I have another four to go – I literally cannot get out of it. It’s a great show, it provided me with my big break, but what can I do? Urrrgh.”

There’s pain behind that cheesy smile.
