I ceased watching IDOL somewhere around Archuleta's era. But I remember how often the judge's would use "Broadway" as a pejorative to describe the singing. As if the use of some sort of combo of legit technique/sound and lyric interpretation diluted the pop sensibility. Especially today, ridiculous. Randy in particular often landed on "too Broadway" to measure a performance. It now seems faintly ludicrous, considering how many IDOL folk have landed here. If anything, the show funneled the people into the theater. If anyone cares to make a list, it will make Randy's remarks appear even dumber than they sounded on-air.
